I operate using an integrative approach to counseling, meaning I utilize different techniques including cognitive behavioral therapy, multi-systemic therapy, feminist theories, mindfulness, motivational and other interventions.
As a therapist, my focus is on empowering children and adults, and helping them achieve long-lasting change. I have worked with people from various communities and populations, and I understand that each individual has their own unique set of challenges and goals. I believe that everyone has the ability to thrive, and I am committed to helping my clients tap into their strengths. A strength-based approach can allow for the opportunity to identify successes, reestablish healthy patterns and learn new ways to deal with everyday life. I strive to create a safe and welcoming environment for clients to share.

In our fast-paced world, finding balance can often feel like a distant dream. With life's demands and a culture that may overlook mental well-being, many find themselves drained and struggling to embrace joy. Therapy offers a powerful tool for self-discovery, managing unhelpful behaviors, and healing deep-seated wounds that are challenging to address alone. As a dedicated mental health therapist, I am passionate about empowering women and others to prioritize their mental health and make transformative changes.

I really enjoy working with individuals needing empowerment and are seeking an effective balance of support and challenge. If you are hoping to be understood, better cope with challenge(s), grow as a person, work on relationships, and/or heal emotional wounds, I would very much like to help. I also have many years of experience working with young adults and professionals as they navigate this stage of life development. Having worked with a diverse group of people, I have both the professional training and experience for meeting people where they are in life and within the identities they hold.

My approach allows clients the emotional space to examine situations without identifying as the problem themselves. This creates key exploratory distance between self and the parts holding guilt or shame, which fosters more room for curiosity rather than judgment. This is also useful if you are seeking resources as a member of a couple or family where fear of blame is common. Over the years, I have seen themes emerge amongst the clients that really gravitate towards my approach. Often, these clients identify as highly attuned, driven and sometimes perfectionistic.

Hi! My name is Stephanie and I'm a bilingual (English - Spanish) and bicultural (Mexican - American) therapist. I support adults, young adults, and adolescents (12+) with overcoming issues related to trauma, navigating difficulties of living in two cultures, and setting boundaries to maintain healthy relationships with family through a trauma-informed, person-centered, and liberation-based approach. If you are struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, self-esteem, body-image, or relationship issues, know that you are not alone and that you are taking a tremendous step towards your healing, and I would be honored to work with you.

Feminist Therapists

How does feminist therapy work?

Feminist therapy sessions are not only personal but often cultural or political in nature, as the approach is based on the belief that people are affected by, and often struggle with, cultural and societal norms and biases, and need to move beyond those external pressures or stressors to tap their own confidence and engage more fully in their own identity. Sessions may therefore include discussions of sexism, diversity, and gender issues and talk of steps toward greater empowerment for patients who believe they have been silenced and seek to raise their voices.

What are examples of feminist therapy techniques?

Along with traditional talk therapy and analysis, a feminist therapist may employ techniques such as role-playing and assertiveness training to help clients build their self-esteem so that they feel they can act freely, and not based on cultural expectations or gender roles dictated by others. A feminist therapist may also engage in bibliotherapy, offering suggested readings on gender identity or social power inequities as they work toward viewing mental-health concerns through a broad cultural lens before focusing on how they affect the individual. Somatic therapy techniques, with an emphasis on body awareness, self-compassion, and mindfulness practices are also often part of feminist therapist practice.

How long does feminist therapy last?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for feminist therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. It may take some time to become comfortable discussing personal issues, but once a client feels they can do so, they could expect therapy to last for a number of months, typically including at least 12 sessions.

Does feminist therapy work?

As a relatively recent therapeutic technique, there is not yet a body of evidence proving the efficacy of feminist therapy. However, the approach is based on proven core principles of talk therapy, with a particular emphasis on developing a therapeutic relationship based on equality and authentic connection between therapist and client and discovering and building on clients’ personal strengths to help them gain a greater sense of personal power and agency.
