My priority is to help clients lead a valued, fulfilling life. I work well with creative or insightful individuals who are dealing with anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, or major life decisions or transitions. In addition to working through specific challenges, psychotherapy is an opportunity for you to gain insight into why you act the way you do, explore who you want to be in the world, and better understand what you need in order to thrive. I feel privileged to do this kind of work with people.

As a first generation Middle Eastern therapist, I have had the privilege of working with clients from a wide variety of socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds, but what they've all had in common is the desire to feel stronger; whether they're battling eating disorders, social anxiety, depression, or PTSD my clients want to feel empowered and capable of living a better life, and my goal is to teach them the skills they need to overcome the barriers to wellness. My clients are resilient, and I help them discover how their past traumas affect their present and future, and how they can be successful regardless of these challenges.

Life is about feeling connected, sharing in the joys and sorrows, and striving for something better, a better you. Therapy is a place where you can share and explore the challenges and achievements that make each of us an individual. I believe that forming a safe, non-judgmental relationship is fundamental to therapy and what guides the healing process. We work together in order to gain insight and learn healthy coping skills in managing challenges faced and the feelings associated with them. I believe that the most difficult job is working on ourselves but it is also the most rewarding.

Life is a journey. We all struggle at times and need a safe environment in which we can explore our feelings, build greater understanding of ourselves and others, and develop positive coping skills. I meet clients "where they are at" in their lives journey. I believe in a nonthreatening approach, where clients feel safe and free to be themselves. My goal is to help my clients navigate the ups and downs of their life by gaining greater insight into their thoughts, feelings and behaviors, and by developing the skills needed to meet life's challenges.

If you're someone who's had trauma, an illness, recent loss, relationship struggles strong emotions of anger and/or saddness that are getting in the way of living fully, I'm here, bringing my 20+ years experience helping folks work through barriers to lasting change. Often past experiences cause us to develop creative ways of surviving that don't function well with our current life. I work with folks on processing their present concerns while keeping an open door to looking at the past and dreams that inform, revealing the source of repeating patterns. I help people to transform their pain into new meaningful emotional experience.

Are you living the life you want to live? Or the story someone else wrote for you? The world is so loud. Whether it is society, school, work, family, social media, religion, or friends, there are so many voices telling us how we ‘should’ be. With all that noise, it can be hard to hear our own voice. Living out of alignment with ourselves can lead to feelings of anxiety, loneliness, depression and psychic pain. Our job, together, is to create a calm, safe space where you can tune in to yourself, connect with yourself, learn to accept yourself, and figure out how to live a life that honors your values and the desires of your heart.

If obsessions and compulsions are getting in the way of you living your life fully, I'm so glad you're here, and I would be honored to support you. Living with OCD can make it challenging to show up in your relationships, to do your job, and to show up in life. I use evidence-based treatments, including Exposure Response Prevention (ERP), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), to help my clients change their relationships with their thoughts and unwanted compulsions so they can get back to life.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
