Emotional health difficulties are like a cold, everyone gets them from time to time. However, if the cold goes on for weeks or keeps on getting worse, you should probably see a healthcare professional. This is true for our emotional health as well. If we want to be healthy, we have to take care of ourselves: body, mind and soul. Psychotherapy is medical treatment and care intended to relieve or heal the soul. It is a journey of self-discovery, personal growth, healing and wholeness. I have 20 years of experience supporting and guiding clients in a variety of areas including mental health, health care, disability and family services.

I specialize in working with children 3-18 struggling with controlling anxiety, impulsivity, issues with anger, low self-esteem and other behavioral issues. I also support children adapting to life changes (e.g. divorce, moves, family relationships, grief). In caregiver consults, you can expect us to review progress toward goals, discuss important themes in your child's behavior, and provide recommendations to support goals at home. My work with adults involves navigating through personal relationships, self-exploration, and stress management. I also provide services in Spanish.

I sought to be a counselor to help others become the best version of themselves in order to live their best lives. I am a retired Major in the United States Army with 23 years of military service. My military assignments have ranged from Topographic Non-Commissioned Officer, Horizontal Engineer Company Commander, Brigade Engineer Battalion Executive Officer, and Combat Engineer. I have dedicated my career to taking care of soldiers and their families. My husband, Daniel Carrizales, is a retired Gunnery Sergeant in the Marine Corps. I have four girls (ages 27, 25, 22, & 17), two boys (ages 20 & 13), and five lovely grandchildren.

Feeling sad, anxious, fearful or hopeless can be scary and lonely for someone who has no idea where to start to get better. While many of the topics shared by my clients are hurtful and frightening, I also find humor can be helpful. I strive to be honest and transparent with my clients while providing them with a safe, non-judgmental space in which to explore all issues you're dealing.

I am best suited to adults and teens who are struggling with stress, work and family issues, personal challenges and past trauma resolution. My approach to counseling includes creative methods to keep my clients engaged, goal setting and strength based techniques that empower the individual. Clients who really want to see results and are prepared to partner with their therapist will definitely see overall change as we work together to address their concerns.

Accepting new clients (individuals, teens, and couples.) I am a dedicated counselor committed to providing top quality services to all my clients. My primary specialty is working with couples, but I have a variety of experience in the counseling field working with teens suffering from self-esteem issues, women struggling with anxiety and boundaries, men's issues, parenting woes, spiritual growth development, and military family issues. I have over ten years worth of experience working with children ages 3-18 in various settings throughout my professional career. I have five years of experience working with children and adolescents with a variety of mental health diagnosis (i.e. Autism Spectrum disorder, ADHD, ODD, etc.). I also have experience addressing behavioral problems, parent-child relationship difficulties, improving parenting skills, and improving communication between family members.

As an LPC and EMDR Certified Therapist, it is my goal to assist clients in addressing mental health and behavior issues that may be preventing them from living the life they desire. I provide a warm, collaborative, and safe environment that encourages the client to be in control of the focus and direction of therapy. I use a variety of approaches, but primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and EMDR to help clients identify and challenge negative thought and behavior patterns, as well as reprocess past trauma. I have worked in in-patient and out-patient settings with clients of all ages, including children, teens, and adults.

I have 20 years of clinical experience helping children and teens with a variety of issues including Autism Spectrum Disorder(All ages), ODD, learning disabilities, anxiety, depression, behavior problems, parenting challenges, communication skills and helping the families cope with these issues. Additionally I have 15 years experience specializing in working with special education eligible students and their families as well as all at risk students and other school challenges. I believe in focusing on the family and helping parents learn skills to manage behaviors and improve communitcation at home. Additionally, I work with GBLT, trauma, men's/woman's issues, marital issues, individual & family conflict.

My professional experience includes working with our military services members and their dependents working through deployments, suicide, multiple relocation's, marital issues, PTSD and other issues that military families face. In addition, I have worked with families, teens and children on multiple issues such as depression, anxiety, family issues, divorce, substance abuse, anger management, grief and loss, parenting skills, domestic violence and adolescent issues. now offering mental health evals, fit for duty evaluations , custody evaluation , dwi evaluations and other and testing. My goal is to provide safe, nurturing, and effective psychotherapy to adult, adolescents, children, and families. I use practical and individually tailored approaches. With children and teens my approach is relaxed and non-threatening. I often use play therapy techniques such as: games, art activities, and sand tray. With older teens, adults and families, I strive to create an atmosphere of teamwork that allows clients to educate me about their lives and they changes they want.

We all have an innate goodness, natural spontaneity and potential. We tend to disconnect from it in response to painful experiences. It is a natural, even genetic program, to want happiness and joy in life. The frantic attempt to numb or avoid pain,results in denial of joy and natural spontaneity. My commitment as a therapist is facilitation of healing and transformation towards joy and connection. I use a Holistic approach, seek authenticity, and believe that each person's uniqueness can bring inner peace, extend to family, and enhance relationships.
