I incorporate various treatment methods including CBT, family systems and psychodynamic psychotherapy.
In therapy it is essential to develop a trusting relationship that will allow you to feel confident and supported to disclose life's difficulties and accept help with greater insight of your current circumstances. In a warm and supportive environment, offering empathy, understanding and encouragement we will work together to identify specific concerns, feelings, thoughts and beliefs that interfere with your daily living. By building on your strengths, and practicing new ways of thinking, you will change those negative thought patterns, feeling more at peace with yourself and improving your emotional well-being.

We will meet in the constellation that is needed for you: it can be individual, couples, or family.
What is causing the twirl in your stomach at 4AM? How do we get the racing thoughts to stop? Sometimes anxiety takes over to the point that your body hurts. Distractions are not working anymore; the pain is too great. If you stuff your bag with too many hurts the load will get too heavy. The twirls, sleepless nights, and body aches become overwhelming. We have to unpack the bag for you to be able to breathe again. In session we will find some old hurts that never healed as we hear your story. Together we will find the parts of you that you want to keep. Together we will work towards you feeling prouder and more connected.

I am trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and EMDR, and am certified to supervise visitation between parents and children through the Coaching Family Visits model.
Is your child’s thinking, feeling, or behavior negatively affecting their ability to fully engage in life? I help children and families identify challenge areas and provide support through offering individual sessions for children, family-based sessions, and parent-focused sessions. While I may offer specific expertise relating to therapy and child development, parents are the experts when it comes to their own children, so I rely on collaboration with family members to provide the most effective treatment.

I have been an individual and family/couples therapist for more than 25 years - It is reassuring to see all the changes that have developed over time. There are so many options for people including brief consultations as well as video sessions. I think people today are more comfortable creating good smart relationships with therapists and are seeking out a good fit. The internet helps with this. For me, a good fit would be someone who is ready for work, has an open mind, and is curious about themselves and interested in making change. I am a clinician who is direct and fairly straIght forward as well as supportive and kind.

Life feeling hard is normal, but there are times when it feels like too much. Grieving, worrying, connecting, differentiating, feeling stuck, relationship challenges, self doubt, fear, entrenched patterns that we can’t seem to change. It can feel impossible to figure out on your own where things are stuck and what might help.

When emotions stir within, causing anxiety, depression, or distress in relationships, life can feel overwhelming. I view these shifts as gifts, like an indicator light your higher Self is yearning for a personal growth spurt. These feelings can be an opportunity to free yourself from the experiences that hold you back from living your best life. My ideal client is ready to explore their internal world to make the changes needed to create a positive transformation. I am a body-based trauma-informed therapist with a master’s degree in dance/movement therapy. I use the creative process and visualization as a tool for exploration.

With growth and change comes challenges. And with challenges, often comes growth and change. Therapy is a tool that can help with this. With over twenty years of experience in the profession and having worked with people of all ages facing various obstacles and difficulties, I have had the honor and privilege to witness this time and time again. Sometimes, we need support as we grow, evolve, learn to more fully connect with ourselves and others, and heal.

Seeking help is an act of bravery, so kudos to you for coming to this site looking for it. It signifies strength and resilience. People say “life is hard” all the time, and they’re not wrong. The challenges in today’s post Covid and politically tumultuous world are, in some ways, more difficult than they’ve been in a long time. For the individual who has trauma activations, anxiety, grief, or lives an alternative lifestyle, even acts of daily living can be overwhelming. Obviously, we can only do so much to change adverse circumstances beyond our control; the events of a tumultuous past, and/or a challenging present. However...

Trauma isn’t what happens to us. It’s what happens inside of us. If I have learned anything from my own pain, my clients' pain, and the failures of our current system of mental health treatment, it’s that we are constantly misunderstanding the role of traumatic experience. Together we will find a therapeutic approach that works for you and your unique experience. In order to create lasting change in our lives, we need more from therapy than a verbal exchange. Over the last ten years, I have studied and employed a variety of experiential methods to address the root causes of trauma and help individuals invite lasting personal growth.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
