When things don't go as expected during or after giving birth, you may feel resentful or wonder why it seems so easy for other moms. Friends and family say things like "at least you have a healthy baby," and while you know they have the best of intentions, it just feels like no one gets it. Everything has changed, and it makes sense that you don't feel like yourself. It's time to stop suffering in silence, stop beating yourself up, and reach out for help. It takes a village!

I also provide substance abuse evaluations for criminal court charges (DUI, DUID, possession), for family court situations (divorce, custody), and SAP evaluations (under the DOT regulations) and I am available to provide clinical supervision to individuals seeking licensure (LCSW, LPC, or LAC) or CAC certification in the State of Colorado.
Since you are seeking help, you clearly want things to be different in your life but you may not know where to start. I can help you learn tools and strategies to overcome substance abuse, addiction, codependency issues, depression, or anxiety issues and support you in learning and practicing the skills you need to stay on your new path. While the idea of overcoming substance abuse, addiction, codependency, depression, or anxiety issues may feel overwhelming, it is possible. I understand that it can be intimidating to ask for help: I agree to walk beside you every step of the way.

I am trained as a Child Family Investigator for the Courts.
I have become very interested in the brain's functioning powers and how people can learn to re-wire neural networks, using strategies that can calm, relax, heighten a sense of personal control, diminish the power of old patterns, and strengthen healthy neural pathways. Research now shows that talking about what is causing tension, stress, or discomfort for you is good for your brain. It is good to find a therapist, a trusted friend or clergy worker to confide in and improve your life. I work with children of all ages, adult individuals, and couples and families who are having difficulties.

Suppose you are struggling with trauma, anxiety, stress, depression, family issues, loss and grief, or relationship issues.
Our foundational beliefs, values, experiences, and attitudes are the foundation upon which everything that comes into our lives is built. Like building a home, if a stone in the foundation is skewed, the house is structurally compromised. When we experience trauma or negative experiences, everything that touches upon that foundation is compromised. This can lead to anxiety, depression, relationship issues, low self-esteem, suicidal thoughts, PTSD, and a loss of life direction, just to name a few possible results. We all can restructure our lives through processing and perspective.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
