I am currently an intern pursuing NY State licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist under the supervision of Renay Bevins-Pence of Therapy II.
As the parent of three children, ages 19, 16, and 12, I understand firsthand the challenges of navigating family dynamics both as a divorced, single parent and as part of a simple step- family. I am dedicated to supporting the growth and well-being of adolescent students, teens, parents, individuals, couples, and families. I believe that our therapeutic relationship should be one of collaboration, in which you feel safe and supported in a nonjudgmental environment. My objective is to help you develop the skills and mindset needed to overcome obstacles and assist in identifying goals and adopting a more positive outlook on life.

I am a New York licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a Hypnotherapist. I am also an Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant. I have over 25 years of experience counseling people. I have experience with, but not limited to, depression, anxiety, autism, maternal mental health, substance abuse, divorce proceedings, couples abuse, and people in the LGBTQ+ community. With all the counseling I have done I became aware of the limitations of “talk therapy” when I worked with veterans. Hypnotherapy is another way of helping people with trauma. anxiety, depression, smoking, and eating disorders.

As an Intern in Marriage and Family Therapy, I am focused on relational healing and growth.
We all want loving, connected relationships, we want the best for our children and we want deeply fulfilling and meaningful lives. Then life happens, our mind loses the target, our emotions weigh us down and our bodies feel tired and weary. If you've reached this point, I want to walk along this path with you. I will work to understand your inner terrain and then help you see the bridges, landmarks, rest stops, and water stations so that your journey regains more of its adventure and joy. From here you orient back to your own compass discovering calm, confidence, compassion, connection, creativity, courage, and clarity.

Hello, I have a great passion for serving Youth, Adults and Families. Sometimes we are faced with adversities or changes within our life that can be difficult to deal with and/or ask for help. School, work, relationship and life expectations may cause us to feel stressed, overwhelmed, disconnected or just overall tired. When this happens, we often experience an increase in symptoms of depression, anxiety or past trauma. I work to lessen the stigma and empower individuals to seek help for these concerns in hopes to help to heal & strengthen the person & family.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
