Along with my general approach described above, I also use a combination of well-established therapy models to meet the specific needs of each client, including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing).
My approach to therapy is active, collaborative, and conversational. I work hard to create a space where you feel comfortable and understood. Within this type of connection, you are better able to explore difficult thoughts, feelings, and experiences and you are more likely to make meaningful, lasting changes in your life.

Or are you a person needing help with anxiety, depression or PTSD? I use EMDR and other mind/body techniques to help you find love and care for yourself.
People come to me with problems of anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship issues. I have been in practice for 28 years working with adults of all ages, and I am attuned to understanding childhood patterns that no longer work and may contribute to one's current stress. Trained in both psychodynamic understanding, as well as the newer modes of somatic intervention, I remain focused while maintaining a constancy of care and compassion. As clients and therapists, we all work with our strongest intention to create a peaceful and centered approach to ourselves and with the people most important to us.

I work with individuals, couples, and families challenged by anxiety, depression, loss, trauma, addiction and the changes of everyday life. While grounded in traditional psychodynamic psychotherapy, I also integrate interpersonal neurobiology and body-based therapies, including Neuroaffective Relational Model (NARM) for developmental trauma, Somatic Experiencing and EMDR. Often, insight alone is not enough to shift patterns we find ourselves stuck in and repeating in ourselves and our relationships.

As an EMDR practitioner, I help my clients heal painful or traumatic memories that have been held in the body.
I’m grateful to have this opportunity to connect with you. The therapeutic process is a sacred journey. Here we can share in a safe, non-judgmental place. If we have suffered addiction, anxiety, depression or trauma we can uncover the aspects of ourselves that need healing. The quality of our lives is directly connected to the quality of our relationships - with ourselves and with others. When our relationships are suffering, everything is impacted. For that reason, in our therapy sessions we explore whatever is unfolding in your relationships and we discover how to bring awareness and skill to these crucial connections.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
