FB takes away contentment as it promotes narcissism and unjust feelings on jealously based on the fiction and competition among "friends" I also work with individuals who are court mandated for treatment of substance abuse.
Have other therapists failed you? did you fail to make a connection? If you answered yes you are looking at the right profile. Life affects us all, we have good and bad experiences. At times our issues may affect our ability to get the most out of life. I provide a safe non-judgmental environment, allowing you to express yourself while offering feed-back. I am a firm believer that effective communication is essential to overcoming many challenges. I also work with clients struggling with anger management and am willing to work with people who are court-mandated. No offering virtual Video sessions online.

Do you often feel on edge, trying to heal from past trauma while managing daily responsibilities? Frequently, people who have experienced trauma develop remarkable survival skills. However, the strategies that were essential for coping during traumatic times can sometimes become problematic in daily life. I have experience working with individuals who have faced abuse and/or neglect, anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, relationship difficulties, PTSD, intimate partner violence, sexual assault, and adjustments to new life circumstances; just to name a few. My focus is on helping individuals overcome their symptoms and behaviors.

I do not have an ideal client since I have worked with all different populations. If I had to specify, I would want to work with an adult struggling with life’s challenges, such as adjusting to college, dealing with a breakup, struggling with self-esteem, managing family stressors, employment concerns, and/or substance abuse. This person would want to improve the quality of their life, process their thoughts, and work towards creating change to live a healthier and happier lifestyle. Their goal may be to improve their way of thinking, have extra support to process their thoughts with, and become the person they would like to be.

My ideal client is simply a client who is ready to make a change. No matter the presenting problem, all I need from my client is an open mind and a readiness for change.

Mental Health challenges is real and it can be difficult to open up to someone about your thoughts, emotions, life struggles, and other challenges. However, that's why I'm here, to offer you a safe space where there is no judgement. My goal is to help you process your thoughts and emotions while also providing education on how to cope positively, and how to manage the challenges that life gives you. Depression, anxiety, and anger, are only some of the negative emotions that can easily dominate our daily lives, but together we can learn how to take control and be empowered to lead a fulfilling life.

Life has its bright moments, but it can also have its dark side. When you find yourself spending more time in the dark times than the bright times, it's time to come and see a therapist. I can help you come back into the brightness of life and teach you how to spend most of your time there.

Having to be strong, tough, and on all the time can be draining. Compound all of that with having to do it while hiding your emotions can be doubly stressful. Black men are raised to be resilient and silent, to take what life throws at you without complaining “Just Man Up!”. Being raised to be strong was the message. Weakness is not to be shown or felt. Now when you’re upset or overwhelmed you have nowhere to turn for help.

Anxiety, Depression and relationship issues can range from restricting to debilitating. Have you found yourself making the same mistakes in your personal and professional life? Are you stuck in an unsatisfying relationship or job, where you feel unable to move forward? Do you have the tendency to keep rehashing past mistakes? Do you feel anxious or depressed as a result? If your answer to any of these questions is "yes," and are eager to free yourself from long-standing unhelpful behaviors, then psychotherapy can help you find the answers you seek and the tools you need to promote growth and change in your life.

Our behaviors make sense if we trace them back far enough. Acknowledging and changing those behaviors can feel overwhelming, so I encourage my clients to show up authentically, embracing not only the darker side of life but also the lighter moments containing humor and resilience. I specialize in childhood and relational trauma, PTSD, anxiety, and attachment issues. I am trained in EMDR, an evidence-based treatment used to process trauma and relieve symptoms of PTSD. I often incorporate IFS-informed practices that support my clients in EMDR reprocessing and accessing vital parts of themselves that may be otherwise neglected

My ideal client needs help with the services I specialize in. I typically consider the client's current habits and strengths to guide us on where to start goal setting. Showing up to therapy is a huge step, and I commend any client who takes that initiative.

It is hard to say what my ideal client is because I believe that I am capable of working with various types of people and that each person is unique. Even with a "challenging" client, I have learned a lot and found value in the work. With that being said, my ideal client has a history of trauma that has impacted their ability to connect with others and themselves. They are struggling with body image, intrusive thoughts, and anxiety about how others are perceiving them. They want to be empowered to advocate for themselves when necessary and create a wellness routine that serves as a preventative measure for mental health problems.

Domestic Abuse Therapists

What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?

Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?

Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?

Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?

It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
