I see the counseling process as a path towards healing and hopefulness. I offer virtual counseling sessions for clients in the state of Tennessee. I work well with clients who are developing coping skills, working through trauma, and experiencing anxiety, stress, depression. I believe that counseling should be used as an early intervention to help support people who are struggling with their emotional and mental wellness. If we utilize counseling throughout our lifetime and during times of either difficulty, trauma, grief, and relationship challenges it can increase our quailty of life and enhance our wellbeing.

Over the past 15 years, I have loved working with every angle of the family. If you looked at my schedule on any given day, you'd probably see a few married couples, some exhausted and burnt-out parents, a college student, a 4th-12th grader, someone having an affair, someone who has been crushed by a loss or a person who is wrestling through their attraction to the same gender. I often find that a person's willingness to come in and simply talk about things creates at least 50% of the change they are looking for.

Whether you are a new mother, working mom of three, a teenager striking out socially, a single man struggling with failed relationships, an "empty nester" trying to figure out what comes next or you are facing challenges with your partner, things can seem just so hard. The stresses and strains of life sometimes overwhelm our ability to cope. That is when counseling can provide restorative benefits.

Mike Tyson once said "Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face." I love this quote because it perfectly represents how life typically goes. We all start by creating a plan and then life, well, happens. We all get knocked down and inevitably we lose our plan. "You either quit or keep going .. they both hurt." Another great quote that perfectly represents therapy. Make no mistake, when done correctly, therapy is hard. However, this hard work will pay incredible dividends. So, if you've taken a few hits and lost your plan, maybe it's time to give therapy a try?

I am in the practice of helping people understand themselves and find pathways towards healing and success. Therefore, I have the honor of meeting you just as you are and seeing a glimpse of your inner world, what shaped you, and molded you into a complex individual and being. My desire is to understand where you have come from and where you would like to go. Through understanding we can begin the work of creating a path toward deeper reflection, healing and thriving.

I believe that everyone needs a safe space in which to be heard, to share their pain, to explore, to heal, and to grow. We were created for connection, and healing happens in relationship. It is a privilege to listen to and hold each client’s story with great care and hope. I know that it can be intimidating to take the first step to begin counseling, but you are welcome here just as you are.

There are many types of couple therapies out there, so how do you choose the right one? Science! I use the most effective type of couples therapy, with scientific evidence, backing up its success. Even in our first session, you will have an understanding of your own cycle that prevents communication. While Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy can be intense work, couples everywhere are finding real change that happens through EFT.

Have you tried therapy before but didn't feel heard, seen or understood? Have you gone through something terrifying in your past that has power over you to this day? If any of the above resonates with you, it would be a privilege to meet you where you are and journey beside you.

Beginning counseling can feel daunting and overwhelming. While it can feel like stepping into uncharted waters, you often seek support when you are already feeling weak, tired, and eager for change. It is important to find a space where you can come just as you are and share, question, grieve - and even celebrate - whatever you may be facing. I have experience working with sex addiction, trauma, anxiety, depression, couples work, grief and loss, pre-marital counseling, and spiritual direction. I feel passionate about working with those who feel stuck- whether in self-discovery or in unhealthy behaviors.

Good therapy helps promote clarity and progress toward change. I believe that therapy can provide the safety needed for self-exploration and for support in times of stress. And I believe that this safety is created through a trusting therapeutic alliance, which I rely heavily on in my practice. As a clinical social worker, I provide psychotherapy to children, adolescents, and adults who have a broad range of reasons for seeking therapy - these may include anxiety, depression, family conflict, low self-esteem, relationship struggles, parenting concerns, trauma, and loss.

If you are experiencing overwhelming circumstances, a flood of emotions, depression, anxiety, or conflict within a relationship, exploring empowering options can have a large, and lasting, life impact. Couples/partners can also work together in therapy to find more harmony in a joint solution. You may struggle with an eating disorder, or have become discouraged with multiple, and extreme efforts to manage food. I bring 20 years of experience, working in partnership with individuals and couples who are seeking relief. It is important to me to utilize evidence-based treatment methods, individualized to each person's specific needs.

Divorce Therapists

How does therapy for people affected by a divorce work?

Individuals may feel a number of emotions following a divorce, such as shock, guilt, grief, anger, and fear. Therapists offer a non-judgmental space for individuals to talk about what they’ve experienced and process their emotions. Therapists will help clients develop coping strategies. They can also help a client rebuild their sense of self and self-worth and talk about what a happier future might look like.

What’s the most common type of therapy following a divorce?

There are several types of therapy that may be useful for divorce, including cognitive behavioral, acceptance and commitment, solution-focused brief, and mindfulness-based therapies. Many therapy types are talk-therapy based, which is typically the most popular option for individuals dealing with divorce. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a widely-used talk therapy, however, there’s no specific therapy type that’s designed to help people with divorce, and different types will work depending on the person.

When should an individual seek help due to a divorce?

When the feelings of a divorced individual, or an individual going through the process of divorce, begin to disrupt healthy daily functioning, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not performing at work due to problems with anxiety or motivation, if they’re no longer seeing friends due to feelings of shame, or if they’re not properly taking care of themselves as a result of depression, speaking to a professional could help.

How do you encourage someone to go to therapy due to a divorce?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the individual while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Sharing how the individual appears to be suffering, and what effects it has on them or on their children, should be done with compassion and empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
