I work with young adults and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, suicide ideation, and life transitions.
Taking the first step toward therapy takes strength and courage. Life is full of challenges; no challenge is too big or too small for therapy. You may be experiencing anxiety, depression, or a life transition, that may benefit from additional support. My hope is to create a space free of judgement, built on trust and compassion, where we can work together toward your individual goals. In this space, I am committed to listening to your unique story and coming alongside you as you journey through healing, wholeness, and hope.

Anxiety/ Depression: Anxiety, depression, panic attacks, social anxiety, and phobias are conditions which are highly treatable.
If you're searching for a therapist who will encourage you to stay in counseling for years while holding your hand singing camp songs, I suggest you keep looking. But if you prefer a trained clinician whose approach to counseling is goal-oriented and solution-focused, contact my office staff to set up an appointment. You can trust that I will be sensitive and empathetic, but since you are hiring me to do a job, I will be directive in identifying the best approach to solve your problems. Most of my clinical practice focuses on Relational/Marriage issues as well as Anxiety/ Depression.

I take a deep dive into Negative Core Beliefs & the formative experiences behind them as well as how they impact the client - whether struggling with trauma, anxiety, depression or behavioral addictions.
I work with individuals fifteen years of age and older to overcome issues of mood disorders, like depression and anxiety, grief and loss, trauma, behavioral addictions as well as difficult life transitions. The greatest need clients often face is to gain a clear perspective and solid goals to address their struggles. My primary goal is to help my clients reach a point of no longer needing therapy, by getting to the root of the challenges, giving practical tools they can use every day to maintain a mentally healthy life. I am also a clinical supervisor, providing clinical supervision to Limited Licensed Professional Counselors.

Therapy is all about connection. Whether it's with your therapist, family, friends, partner, or most importantly, with yourself, the first step to a healthier state of being is making and nurturing this connection. Depression, anxiety, traumatic experiences, and addiction can leave us disconnected and stuck in survival mode. Even just the stress of everyday life can feel overwhelming and unmanageable at times. In order to reconnect and become "unstuck," it often requires some guidance.

Maybe you're feeling depressed or numb, overwhelmed by anxiety, grieving a loss, trapped in unhealthy cyclical patterns, struggling in relationships, or battling with the effects of traumatic experiences.
Life can be messy, unpredictable, wonderful, and fragile. It can also be overwhelming, so I value opportunities to slow down and listen to our bodies, emotions, and needs. Therapy is a space where you can do that - and not do it alone. We can explore all of your life's extremes and constants, as well as the potential extremes and constants of yourself. I’m here to offer an empathetic, non-judgmental, safe space for you to notice, explore, and dive into parts of yourself that may have been left unheard, stuck in the past, or difficult to face in the present.

Your life looks great on paper, but you're stuck because of self-limiting beliefs, nagging anxiety, shame from your past, an inner critic that won't shut up, or a depression that constantly whispers a message of hopelessness. I will help you journey into these parts of your story, reclaim hope and move beyond being stuck.

My clients are ready to roll up their sleeves and do the work! They have my support of course as they work to address life stressors, symptoms of anxiety, depression, trauma, and life adjustments.
Asking for help can be hard, but it doesn’t have to be! You don’t have to suffer in silence or figure it out alone. Are you ready to name what you need? Are you ready to be authentically you? Are you ready to confront the things you’ve been avoiding, set goals, and crush them? These are just a few questions some of my clients might ask themselves as they prepare to engage in therapy.

I work with teens and adults and specialize in treating anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship challenges.
As a therapist, it is my goal to provide a safe and welcoming space where you will feel heard, respected and supported. I am sensitive to the fact that many people are not too eager or comfortable with opening up to a stranger about their personal history. My therapy style is warm, relaxed and caring and I practice from an integrated treatment approach, paced and tailored to fit the goals and readiness of each individual.

Life is difficult. With the right tools and some effort, it does not have to be. My hope is to help you with your goals. Whether that is to feel better (less depressed, anxious or angry), improve your relationships (with a spouse, parent, child, etc.), change your behaviors (substance use, self harm, avoidance), or anything else that is important to you, I'd love the opportunity to help. I enjoy working with a number of different presenting problems. My passions are working with teens/adults, men's issues (especially navigating work and/or family life), post-partum Dads, athletes and substance use/co-occurring disorders.

The majority of my practice is working with women and "women's issues." Many women seek guidance and counsel as they deal with the stages and changes in their lives. Childbirth through menopause, there are challenges that can provoke thought, action or concerns. Trauma from childhood sexual abuse can cause depression and anxiety. I have worked with many women concerning these issues. The use of EMDR therapy provides a tool to process through trauma and improve outcomes.

I specialize in helping those with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, grief/loss, and pregnancy-related concerns.
The search for a therapist can be overwhelming, but it’s a courageous first step toward improving your life and overall well-being. Often, people know they are not happy, but they need some help to discover why. Since the success of therapy largely depends on how you feel toward your therapist, I strive to create an environment that feels nonjudgmental, safe, and comfortable. I work alongside you in the therapy, guiding you to your own conclusions with thought-provoking questions and comments, rather than telling you what decisions are best for you. Working in that manner helps build confidence in yourself and your decisions.

I also work side by side with people to help with identifying and resolving the causes of depression and anxiety along with skills to work through the struggling moments.
I work with people across the life span to meet them where they are. I believe people are the experts on themselves, but just need help with navigating what is inside, so they can see their own self-worth and potential. In helping people work through their traumatic experiences, we can take a new approach where the person does not have to tell their story AGAIN and relive their experiences. Instead we can look at how the mind and brain react and recognize how to build resiliency to achieve an optimal level of happiness, calm, and freedom from being owned by emotional responses.

Waitlist for new clients
I am a licensed doctoral level psychologist who provides individual and couples therapy for adolescents and adults seeking help with depression, anxiety, relationship concerns, life transition difficulties and many more.
I put great emphasis on developing a strong, safe, and comfortable relationship in therapy where difficult issues can be explored in a trusting environment. My approach to therapy consists of working on two separate but related levels. The first level is, what is getting in the way of life now and what can we do to relieve that suffering together. The second level includes the deeper issues and patterns from a person’s history that are influencing current and long standing concerns. I aim to provide a safe, nonjudgmental, empathic atmosphere where individuals can feel known and cared for in all aspects of their identities.

Depression Therapists

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognize and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioral activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
