Greetings! Thank you for your consideration to enter into a therapeutic relationship with myself, and/or one of the providers with our practice (sussexfamilycounseling.com). I would like to share a little background information to help you make an informed decision, prior to moving forward. I completed all of my formal education from The Pennsylvania State University (Penn State), included a bachelors degree in Bio-Behavioral Health, a masters degree in Counselor Education/Psychiatric Rehabilitation, and a doctoral degree in Adult Education.

Currently Accepting NEW Clients: Looking for tweens, teens, and young adults that feel they need a sounding board for life experiences or the parent that feels their child would benefit from having a trusted, compassionate, and realistic influence in their life. A mother of a child on the spectrum, we faced challenges in relationship engagement/ building, social skills and cues, and simply having an opportunity for experiences that would enhance my child’s life. Wade G. Jones, LPCMH, LCDP, CAADC, CCS is the Executive Director, Alternative Solutions Consulting Group, LLC. He is also the Division of Prevention and Behavioral Health Services’ System of Care (SOC) Clinical Lead and the Delaware Fatherhood and Family Coalition Statewide Coordinator. Mr. Jones has been the Behavioral Health Services Coordinator and Behavioral Health Consultant (BHC) for the State of Delaware, Recovery Services Administrator I of Recovery Innovations’ Recovery Resource Center and Program Coordinator for First State Community Action Agency’s A Second Chance: Prison Re-entry Program.

I believe everyone has the capacity to grow and change as well as heal. I also believe the counseling relationship should be a good fit. I provide psychological services to adults, adolescents and children. As a Registered Play Therapist I allow the child to express feelings in a safe playful environment. I offer individual and group process for adolescent struggling with life challenges. If stress, anxiety, depression and anger is affecting your relationships, work, mental/physical health and your daily life seems overwhelming, I provide a supportive, positive counseling relationship that is collaborative and helpful.

I believe that the therapeutic process involves a collaborative effort between therapist and client to recognize and understand problems and conflicts, identify realistic goals, and take full advantage of the strengths and strategies available to promote meaningful and positive change. As a psychotherapist and Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Delaware for over 20 years, I actively work with clients to process difficulties, cultivate new understanding, and strengthen the skills needed to promote healing, personal growth, emotional wellness, improved self-esteem and healthy boundaries.

Things have changed. There are so many losses. You may feel crazy but “just because you feel crazy doesn’t mean you are’. You are doing the best you can do and to make sense of everything your brain is doing its best to understand the new “normal”. Not expressing the pain of your experiences your thoughts can turn against you and cause things to be worse. The ordinary way you used to manage doesn’t work now because these are not ordinary times. It’s time to show yourself kindness by allowing your pain to be heard. Validation is powerful and allows some peace while managing through the maze of loss and change.

Throughout my career I have specialized in working with adolescents and their families to address a myriad of adjustment related issues including divorce and trauma. I currently offer individual adult and couples counseling as well. I have expertise in working with families who have had to deal with sexual trauma and the legal system including Child Welfare Services. I aim to help you identify ways in which you can improve your quality of life by becoming more aware of self-defeating patterns so that you can take better charge of your life.

I founded Compass Mental Wellness Services to bring a new level of mental health care to Sussex county, understanding that psychotherapy has approximately 60% positive outcomes overall. When you add any complexity to an individual case, the likely hood of positive outcomes decreases even further. I have strived to build a model of psychotherapy that can be used with any therapeutic technique but uses neuropsychological principles to enhance treatment by working with the brain instead of against it. I also utilizes cutting-edge neurophysiological treatment techniques to enhance treatment and enhance positive outcomes.

Life can be challenging and overwhelming, however, we are all capable of growth, change, and learning from our experiences. I am a Licensed Therapist in Delaware and Maryland with over 25 years of experience. Providing counseling for children, teens, adults, and families dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, grief/loss, ADHD, and other life issues. I also have many years of experience helping individual and families who are dealing with terminal illness and end of life transitions.

I am here to work with you to achieve your counseling goals. I bring 25 years of healthcare experience working with: healthcare needs, crisis intervention, behavioral health assessments and brief counseling. I want to work with you to achieve your goals through multiple counseling modalities. After an assessment of your needs and goals, we will work together towards achieving your goals in an open, honest and safe environment. I counsel individuals who are age 18 years of age and older. I provide tele-health and in person appointments. No walk ins. Appointments are necessary.
