Medical doctors have unique perspectives, pressures, needs, goals, and desires compared to other people serving people in other professions. I say this from the perspective of someone who served for 23 years as an MD PhD Medical Scientist before resigning my academic appointment in 2013 and in 2021 I was awarded my Masters Degree in Social Work (MSW) on October, 2023, by Simmons University. My current career passion is to help others entrenched on the same path I was. With reference to our needs, sometimes it is nice to be understood by others. It is more important, however, to understand oneself.
Psychotherapy is a place individuals can share their core self-beliefs in a safe, non-judgmental and empathic environment. Attunement with our core beliefs yields feelings of contentment and gratitude. On the other hand, when core beliefs are contradicted by life experiences, psychological conflict arises, which may manifest emotional dis-ease.
Having a conversation with an MD is a pleasure. This is an open invitation to start a discourse on what it is you are interested in learning about yourself and your profession, and what it is that I have to offer based on my own experiences.
