While I am particularly interested in working with trauma disorders, couples, and substance abuse recovery issues, any issue you bring to therapy, responds well to this holistic approach.
Are you depressed, anxious, struggling with your relationships, job, life transitions, or other emotional problems? Do you want to release old patterns of living? Do you want to experience more wholeness, well-being and authenticity in your life?

When I meet with my clients, I truly want to understand their issues from the onset to the present. This allows me to trust within the therapeutic relationship and also me to see my clients as whole persons, not a person that is divided into pieces. My approach with my clients is compassionate, strength-based, and supportive. While I also practice other modalities, I enjoy focusing on the ones mentioned to serve my clients better.

I see individual/ couples in person in San Luis Obispo.
I do what I call "Nail on the head" therapy...if you want to put a nail in the wall, you get out a hammer, figure out where the stud is, and WHACK it on the head...you don't beat around it, you don't use your shoe, not if you want it to stay! Given this philosophy, I provide straightforward usable tools that will help YOU create the changes YOU most want to create...and I try to do so in a fairly short term manner. Check out my blog at: CreativeSolutionsCounseling.wordpress.com and see if my style of therapy is right for you...then give me a call and lets get starting on creating that changes that can really improve your life!

I also help couples increase intimacy by developing effective communication skills.
"It's never to late to have a happy childhood" This quote embodies the core belief and hope that I bring into my practice. Most people bring wounds from childhood into their adulthood. These wounds show up in their lives as depression, anxiety, low-self-esteem and unhealthy relationships. In therapy, you can become aware of those wound and how they limit your life today, grieve your losses and learn healthier ways to get those childhood needs met. As this healing occurs, we can explore ways to live life more fully and joyfully and to thrive rather than just survive.

If you (like many others) are struggling with your internal experience or in your relationship, consider taking that leap to getting the care and support you deserve.
My initial goal is to help clients feel a level of comfort and safety so they trust themselves and me to discuss and process what is needed to achieve their goals. I support clients in increasing their self-awareness, taking accountability and agency over certain aspects of their life, accepting what is unchangeable or out of their control, and walking with them as they figure out their next best steps; finding tangible solutions that propel them on their journey of feeling whole and healed. I want my clients to feel at peace and in alignment within themselves and throughout their whole life.

In life, we all face obstacles that cause us to feel painful emotions, disconnected, isolated and confused. Are you finding yourself struggling with depression, anxiety, or an eating disorder? Possibly you are feeling stuck, lost, or need help to heal from an emotionally abusive relationship? Or perhaps you want help navigating your neurodiversity, ADHD and/or Autism. I often work with Cal Poly-Cuesta College students, adolescents, or adults in one or more of these areas. In session, we will use an array of therapeutic techniques, such as DBT, Internal Family Systems, Polyvagal Theory, Client Centered, and Attachment Based Theory

I have many years of experience working with children, adults/parents, couples, and families.
Hi there, I provide psychotherapy support for children and adults who are struggling with mental health symptoms, relationship dynamics, and/or behavioral difficulties. The concerns you have for yourself, your relationship, or your child may lead you to feel worried, lost, or overwhelmed. I work through a lens of attachment theory, as well as cognitive behavioral and play therapy, to help clients alleviate the struggles they are having. I also incorporate the evidence-based Gottman Method when working with couples.

My approach to therapy aims at providing relational safety and an open environment, where we can explore and discover inner authenticity and acceptance. Much of the distress we experience as humans has deep emotional roots, and through compassion and the cultivation of relationship comes healing and regaining of one’s peace and autonomy.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
