I have over 33 years experience treating depression and anxiety. I believe that depression/anxiety often has root causes from childhood abuse of a verbal, sexual or physical nature or perhaps regrets resulting from your own choices. I have successfully treated all kinds of PTSD, post abortion syndrome, sexual identity issues, anger, and grief through loss. I help married women to learn to live with difficult husbands when divorce is not their option. I help couples to resolve conflict and learn to live in love and respect.

I am a man of faith and feel our relationship with our God is an important part of the healing process.
In a nut shell, I care about people and have a desire to help others on their quest for healing, wholeness, and reaching their full potential. Life can be hard and sometimes we need a helping hand to navigate the murky waters, and that's okay. Respect for others and empathy in their circumstances is paramount in this profession and I keep that in mind in all situations.

Life is expected to generate many concerns, whether it is financial stress, academic difficulties, emotional discomfort, or social obstacles. Everyone experiences these at times and unfortunately, these concerns can cause challenges.

My goal is to create a safe client-centered environment where we partner together to develop goals that make sense for your life.
No matter the hurdles that life throws your way you can create a full, vibrant, and gratifying future. As a past oncology nurse, HIV/AIDS researcher, and hospice social worker, I am in a unique position to assist you in overcoming challenging health concerns, chronic pain, grief, or loss issues. As a past nurse and behaviorist at a medically-supervised weight loss program, I can help you combat emotional eating, binge eating disorder, and behaviors that sabotage your health and weight loss goals. I work with families under stress, and couples struggling with intimacy, infidelity, infertility, and communication issues.

While counseling offers help in a variety of ways, it is my belief that the therapeutic relationship is the most impactful.
To the humans who are looking for someone to talk to: I'm glad you're here. I'm glad you're scrolling, trying to find the right counselor for you. I'm glad you're taking these steps toward growth, or healing, or finding peace, or letting go, or taking back. You deserve to feel whole, safe, and content. And in both my personal and professional experience, counseling is a profound process that can help you find these things within yourself.

I work with individuals, couples, and families in helping them achieve control over "emotional hijacking" and poor decision making. Feelings like fear, sorrow, anger, rejection prevent people from experiencing connectedness with life and with others. Therefore, the ideal client is one who is struggling with relationship problems, anger, addictions (sexual or chemical), poor stress control, depression, or anxiety-I provide a safe environment where the individual's pain and/or struggle is met with understanding alongside a plan of action to address the issue(s).

During the past 10 years I have helped individuals, couples and families find healing and understanding in bad situations.
My main office is currently in MO but would love to help individuals in Florida struggling with mental health issues via telehealth. Feel like you’re in a constant struggle with worry… low motivation… panic…unpredictable moods.. or with your past? Is the daily struggle dragging down your quality of life like an anchor? Let's talk. I'm here to help you. Many people view therapy as one-sided conversation with little opportunity to experience each other as real people. I want you to know that I am as real as it gets. I want to help you achieve your goals and start living your life where you are excited to wake up every morning.

For 30yrs, I have had the distinct privilege of working with hundreds of traumatized clients, couples, & fellow mental health professionals. Though many are shattered by grave emotional injuries, they find a way to rise up, face themselves and others, heal bravely, and transform their lives. With my clients, I hope to forge a close, safe, & collaborative relationship where clients may achieve significant emotional growth. To do so, clients & I identify treatment strategies that heal wounds, resolve symptoms, change behaviors, cultivate a strong voice, revive joy, engage authenticity, & support courageous, wholehearted living.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
