You deserve a full and meaningful life. The voice that says otherwise is often born of dysfunctional family conditions and traumatic events. The resulting coping habits cause so much suffering. In an attempt to find relief, you act in counterproductive ways to avoid the pain: denial, isolation, screens, self-medicating, dysfunctional relationships, etc... Sadly, this tends to worsen things. Your confidence and self-esteem are diminished. Your life, relationships, and career suffer. Then toxic self-reliance shames you into believing you're a failure for not fixing yourself. The situation can feel hopeless. But you can find relief.

If you’ve been feeling lonely, anxious, or stressed, reaching out for support can be a positive first step towards healing. It’s important to know you do not have to go through this alone. Talking with someone can allow you to see how your thought patterns and actions impact the way you feel. My specialties include working with anxiety, stress, self-doubt, perfectionism, grief and loss, and life transitions. I also support individuals who are highly sensitive and struggling caregivers who often put their own mental health aside to care for others.

There is only one you in the whole entire world and my goal is for you to be able to live your life to its fullest. Seeking out healing is a brave step to take and it shows that you want to live healthier and deal with the issues that are keeping you from that. We cannot always change the things that happen to us in life, but we have a choice to seek help and healing to help our future. So good job already taking this first step!

For many of us, life is often difficult. Whether it's addiction, depression, anxiety, relationships, or just the fears/insecurities of life, there are many different struggles we find ourselves over our lifetime. Counseling is meant to be a place where we are able to walk through the struggles and find both real hope and practical help. I work with individuals and couples walking through a wide variety of life struggles not just to relieve pain, but to find fulfillment and balance in life as a whole.

As a therapist, I find fulfillment in working with a diverse array of clients, including those dealing with neurodivergence, anxiety, trauma, couples work, depression, low self-esteem, emotional dysregulation, and general life transitions.

Whether you are new to therapy, have found yourself stuck in previous therapy, or are somewhere in between, welcome! I work to support and nurture those experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD challenges, trauma, substance use, stress/burnout, life transitions, relationship issues, self esteem, or a lack of sense of self. Through my 18 years working in the field, I've developed a style that is balanced between being validating and nurturing along with being direct and challenging.

Everyone wants to feel seen, heard and understood. We all have stress and experience challenging situations. We also have the capacity to overcome these challenges and reduce that stress. I believe a therapeutic relationship is built on trust and understanding. I use aspects of mindfulness, CBT and DBT to meet my clients where they are at. I like to provide a therapeutic environment that encompasses empathy, growth and encouragement. The power to change your life starts with you.

Self Esteem Therapists

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?

When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?

Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?

Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
