I currently offer individual counseling focusing on relationship issues, life transitions, anxiety, depression, cancer and chronic illness, grief, caregiver stress, trauma, attachment issues, and end-of-life care.
I approach each individual with empathy, curiosity, and acceptance, inviting my clients to explore their emotions and struggles in a safe space. I have supported clients to identify and set boundaries, honor their needs, improve communication, and unlock their innate capabilities. I'm here to offer empathy, support, and guidance as we explore your problems and work together to find solutions. I take my cues from my clients, but maintain a focus on stated goals, and can help give structure to our sessions.

I completed an extensive post-graduate training program at the Ackerman Institute for the Family and have over 8 years of experience working in hospital and school-based settings, helping individuals and families navigating chronic illness, adjustment disorders, anxiety, depression, and difficult family relationships.
As a therapist I create a safe and non-judgmental space where you will feel validated and supported. From a collaborative and strength-based approach, I am passionate about working with individuals, couples, and families to enrich and deepen their connections to those who matter most. I focus on resolving issues related to breakdowns in communication and life transitions including marriage, separation, illness, loss, pregnancy and the birth of a child. I believe that through therapy, ruptures can be repaired, and couples and families can navigate tumultuous times with greater ease and grace.

Any loss can devastate you: a romantic partner leaves; you develop a serious illness; your job ends; a spouse dies; You have a miscarriage, or an empty nest, or your partner is unfaithful, or your child has serious difficulties, or you beloved pet dies or your childhood was abusive. Your responses can include: depression, anxiety, guilt or unending grief. I work with men, women, adolescents and couples who struggle to find symptom relief and greater life satisfaction. My office is a convenient and very private environment in which I spare people psychological jargon and base sessions on mutuality and respect.

I hold space for you to let go of expectations placed on you and to get closer to your most authentic and unfiltered self. This is where you rediscover parts of yourself, connect with emotions that you have buried, allow things to get a little “messy," and create meaningful change. I help clients unpack problematic patterns of behavior, manage difficult emotions, and move through pain to find relief.

Feeling alone, anxious, sad, hurt, or depressed in this uncertain world? It's difficult to bear alone. This often interferes with every day life, if not peace of mind. Maybe I can help you. Practicing for many years as a psychotherapist, I have come to know what a difference it makes when you have a trusted empathic person to talk to. I provide a safe, confidential space and hope to form that empathic understanding bond with you. It is there that you can discuss your fears and/or anxieties, and find resolutions and options in your life where you feared there were none.

Chronic Illness Therapists

How does therapy for chronic illness work?

Many people living with a chronic illness may feel they cannot speak honestly about their experience out of embarrassment or fear of being a burden, or because those close to them do not understand, for example, that they may “look good” even if they do not feel good. Therapy sessions are an opportunity to speak openly with someone who knows their symptoms are not in their head and who can offer practical, proven suggestions for managing feelings of grief, shame, or fatigue, such as techniques to challenge unhelpful thoughts about symptoms and develop new ways to respond to them, such as distraction or calming breathing practices.

Can therapy help with physical symptoms of chronic illness?

Yes, especially if an individual with chronic illness has developed depression. People with depression are less likely to maintain their health treatment regimens or to take positive steps to manage physical symptoms when they arise, thereby potentially complicating their medical prognosis. Treatment of depression, through talk therapy, medication, or both, will often improve one’s physical state as it eases the emotional burden of illness.

What are the most effective treatment options for chronic illness?

No one living with a chronic illness, or their loved ones, should see depression as an unavoidable result of their condition. Instead, they should actively seek treatment. Research shows that people with depression are less likely to devote the required time and effort to maintaining or monitoring their health, and so therapy to limit the risk of depression can be vital for physical health as well. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness-based stress reduction have been found to help individuals reduce stress and anxiety.

How long does therapy for chronic illness take?

There is no set timeline for therapy for people living with chronic illnesses, but many will see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 weekly sessions. Some people feel that they experience progress faster than others but even some who quickly feel improvement may continue with sessions for months or years. Some people may benefit from maintenance therapy if their symptoms change or they experience a decline in physical health. Others find that the skills learned in short-term therapy can be used on an ongoing basis, even after therapy has concluded.
