I enjoy being a part of people's therapeutic space whether it is in individual therapy, group therapy, couples therapy, or family therapy. Helping people work through their hardest moments and seeing them heal is the most rewarding part of my work.

When you come into my office you don’t need to wear a mask or pose as your best self, because I want to help the part of you that’s struggling and that feels misunderstood. Instead, let me help you slow down and take a look at where you actually are. Let my office be somewhere you don’t have to pretend or wear the “it’s fine” mask. Too often we say the phrase “I should…” But how often does that actually get us where we want to go? Why don’t we try something different, where we stop ourselves from “should-ing” on our lives.

I love my work as a therapist and I look forward to helping my clients find confidence and motivation to change and improve their lives. I’m a licensed marriage and family therapist and I work with individuals, couples, and families. I am fluent in Spanish and enjoy working with the Latino population with their unique challenges.

I know how hard life can be. Our very best plans get derailed by unexpected problems or even traumatic events. I believe that life is what you make it, and that we should never be victims of our circumstances. I’m a practical, solution-focused therapist and I want to focus on what you can do today to make your life better for tomorrow. I’m focused on solving problems rather than dwelling on them, and I want to help you learn to do the same. I will use my own life experience as well as my clinical training and expertise to show you better ways to deal with problems that are currently keeping you stuck.

Couples often long to feel close but get stuck in their problems. It can seem like there’s no way out of emotional conflicts, sexual difficulties, past mistakes in the relationship, or other issues. I believe in healing that gets to the root – healing that is deep, self-reflective, compassionate, honest, and real. I work with clients and their partners and family members to heal from difficult past experiences, trauma, and current conflicts toward brighter futures, stronger relationships, and a more secure sense of self.

I am accepting new clients and offer Online Counseling via Telehealth. I've provided over 10,000 hours of therapy and like Confucius said, "Choose a job you love, and you will never work a day in your life." I managed LDS Family Services for 13 years and loved directing the 12-step Addiction Recovery Program in Michigan, New York and Pennsylvania. I've been recruited by multiple residential treatment centers, a hospital, a skilled nursing facility, and by an IOP program assessing and treating substance abuse and domestic violence.

I utilize a lot of experiential methods, as well as traditional talk therapy such as CBT, Mindfulness, and Attachment-based approaches.
Have you ever felt ashamed? Ever felt like others don’t understand you, but say they do? Those have been my own experiences and have led me to work with people in recovery and their families, survivors of domestic violence/abuse, minority communities and teens. I come from a multi-cultural family with an immigrant parent which has both enriched my life and created unique struggles for me. These experiences, however, have helped me empathize with a wide variety of people and situations. My goals are to support my clients as they navigate their struggles and find hope and strength within themselves.

I use methods including mindfulness, Somatic EMDR,Jungian psychology, trauma-informed care, IFS/parts work, and attachment-based therapies to facilitate this discovery and healing process.
My practice is about creating and enhancing a meaningful life. Through a belief that our disturbances--about ourselves, others or life in general - lead us to the doorway of wholeness, we work together to unfold and recognize that essence.

I utilize an attachment-based, relational approach to therapy.
Are you exploring your identities outside the limitations of who you grew up being taught you were "allowed" to be? Maybe you are curious about neurodivergence and want to understand yourself more deeply. Maybe you are queer and haven't found a therapist you feel safe with yet.

My name is April Garcia, I am a therapist that provides Telehealth services in both English and Spanish. I am a firm believer that therapy is for everyone, and we should all experience therapy at least once in our lives. Why? Because therapy provides a safe place to express ourselves and heal. It is a way to bring forward the traumas that sometimes we try to bury down and keep hidden, it is a way to understand ourselves and those around us better, and also a way to become the best version of us we can be.

Life can get complicated and there is no handbook on how to handle things like depression, anxiety, addiction and relationship problems. It is important to know two things: 1. you are not alone, 2. challenges are always opportunities to grow and change your life. You are probably here because it's time to "do something different." Let us help guide you through this journey!

Getting help can be intimidating and I recognize that we all have different beliefs regarding therapy. None of us, however, are immune to the struggles or difficulties that life throws our way. So, whether you are a seasoned veteran in the world of therapy, or this would be your first time coming in, I am here to meet you where you are and work collaboratively to get you to a point where you are both progressing and enjoying life. Being multi-racial myself, I am passionate about helping marginalized populations feel safe and comfortable.

Feeling like others don't “get” you can be lonely. You may feel like you aren't being seen, heard, or understood the way you would like. Perhaps you struggle with truly living your truth versus simply stating it. What if you could feel more comfortable expressing your authentic self and live a meaningful life? It is possible to feel more confident, assured, and ready to become the person you want to be. Let me show you how.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
