Healing Pathways Therapy Center provides a safe nurturing environment for adults, adolescents, and children to focus on relationship, well-being and mental health issues. We focus on topics such as life adjustment, depression, anxiety, relationship and family issues, divorce, phobias, trauma, addictions, etc. We specialize in trauma and childhood attachment issues, working to resolve big or little traumas or negative experiences which tend to impede emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual growth. We focus on healing rather than just coping, by finding resolving underlaying issue rather than just putting a band-aid on symptoms.

SEP Somatic Experiencing Practitioner helping clients who have tried traditional therapy, yet continue to suffer from unresolved normalized & developmental trauma, emotional distress, faith transition, codependency & attachment. I specialize in modernized therapeutic interventions using an integrated approach. I feel it is important to understand how the past impacts the present, allowing the subconscious presence for reprocessing. I believe that it is crucial to help clients learn to pay attention to thoughts, feelings, & physical sensations in the moment building an empowered resiliency needed to move beyond their distress.

My goal as a therapist is to help you discover true connection within yourself and to others through deep exploration of your past experiences, and future hopes and desires. Together we can find the healing and change you may be looking for, and develop a strong sense of self through strength based approaches, mindfulness techniques, and acceptance and commitment therapy. Trained in a psychodynamic approach, we will explore the unconscious mind and help bring awareness to your thoughts and patterned behaviors. I also use modalities such as EMDR and Neurofeedback to help calm and stabilize clients and work through traumas.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
