Do you feel like you swing between constant worry and overthinking to periods of extreme exhaustion, numbness, and shutdown? For many of us, this state of constant survival has become part of our daily lives. For valid reasons, we can become masters at under or over-responding to our body’s distress signals. If you are reading this, you are already becoming aware this is an unsustainable relationship. You know on a deeper level it is time to make changes that lead to a life beyond survival. I help individuals understand the connection between their bodies, emotions, beliefs and how each influence overall wellbeing.

Did you think you had this handled but it keeps coming up? Learning new coping strategies to change your behavior is often temporary but there is a better solution - change your brain. Recent research shows that the brain is flexible, it changed as you adapted to traumatic events and it can change again to recover original potentials. You can change your history.

Feelings of hopelessness and anxiety can become paralyzing, leaving us feeling overwhelmed and stuck. It’s easy to resort to unhealthy thoughts and behaviors to cope with life’s endless challenges. I work with clients pre-teen and up who are looking for help with anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction, codependency, stress, relationships, sleep disorders, work/life balance and life transitions. I also specialize in working with military-connected clients, first responders and their family members.

As a relational therapist, I believe subconscious beliefs and programming are responsible for many of our self-sabotaging behaviors. These impact our relationships and are typically inherited during our upbringing. I choose to work with clients who are struggling with the same patterns that have plagued them for far too long, and who are looking to make a serious change in their lives. I also work with clients who are simply feeling lost and looking for guidance in finding themselves. My ideal client is anyone looking to empower themselves and care for themselves, or their relationship mind, body, and soul.

My ideal clients are those who show a willingness to have me walk beside them and hold their pain as they seek clarification on the emotions that drive their distress. By seeking treatment to address relationship issues, they discover that other aspects of their experience are influenced by their powerful need to connect with their significant others. I am best suited to treating marital distress and disconnection between teens and their parents. I understand the unique importance of familial relationships and the significant relief that comes when these relationships are repaired.

Imagine coming to therapy, where you can unpack all your concerns, and be met with genuine care and zero judgment. Life sometimes seems like an exhausting or impossible challenge, especially when we face issues with mood, relationships, betrayal, trauma, health, transitions, addiction, grief and identity/faith crises. You don’t have to live this way! Hope, joy, peace and healthier relationships are potentially just around the corner!

You're experiencing transition and everything feels like it is crumbling around you. You're seeing things differently and through a new lens. You're feeling anxious, depressed, and overwhelmed. You're grieving your old life, but you're fed up with old cycles. You feel it's time for a massive change. It's time to heal, grow, and integrate the shadows of your past. It's time to empower yourself and rewrite your story. It's time to finally show up for yourself by embodying your most authentic, unique self. You’re making the choice to transform your life now.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
