I believe that rapport, connection, and trust are among the most important components of a therapeutic relationship, so that my clients feel seen, heard, and most importantly, understood. and valued. My goal is to provide a safe and comfortable therapeutic space for my clients to be vulnerable and communicate their wants and needs without the feeling of being judged or having any bias toward their circumstances. My therapeutic approach is dependent on each individuals needs, strengths, and goals, and I will integrate the use of many different evidence-based practices as needed throughout your journey to healing.

At times we all struggle with life changes such as job change or loss, the ending of a relationship, the loss of a loved one, parent-child conflict, or family-marital conflict. These changes can cause feelings of sadness, depression or anxiety. I look forward to working with clients who are seeking help with navigating life's ups and downs.

I believe that my job as a counselor isn't to "fix" my clients but to help them develop a plan where they can attend to and address the issues in their lives. My aim with my clients isn't simply to help them pause an issue in their lives temporarily but to understand why those issues present themselves in the first place so that they can be dealt with appropriately. I primarily use EMDR to help my clients grow in their lives. I enjoy working with LGBTQIA+ folx and individuals hoping to deconstruct beliefs/attitudes absorbed through harmful religious upbringings.

Compassionate care for all ages. Learn how to effectively manage life trials and tribulation with the help of an experienced professional. Every human being regardless of culture, creed, class, background, race or any other distinguishing characteristic is likely to experience some sort of emotional or mental disturbance throughout the course of their lives. The way you think about aspects of your current life or past experiences can move you from healthy, normal distress to more problematic mental heath disturbance. The good news is that it's totally normal to become mentally disturbed and it is absolutely possible to recover.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
