Hi, I’m Jena. I work with ages from young children (3+) to emerging adults providing individual counseling. I strive to help the people I support gain awareness while incorporating evidence-based practices. Together, we can discover strategies to push past the things that might be holding you back from emotional regulation and happiness. When working with young children, I utilize a child-centered approach allowing children a safe space to express themselves. When using this approach, the child is then able to open up in a trusting environment through play therapy. I currently am in pursuit of my Registered Play Therapist cert.

What would it look like if everything is going well for you right now? What would you notice about yourself that is different than now? Do you want to explore the answers to those questions?

There is something you have been pondering for sometime now. Emotions have been all over the place for a while but you've been pushing through them day by day. Before it was working and you thought you had a good handle on them but it seems that now something is telling you it is finally time to reach out. Being overwhelmed, feeling alone and having your feelings seeming to be out of control is enough and it is getting harder to keep up with your every life and relationships feeling like this. All you wanna do is hide away and hope that either things get better or at the least no one will notice what is really going on.

Do you feel like you are an old soul? Perhaps you are the eldest daughter in your family, a mom, or have responsibilities that mirror those experiences. I work with women who have spent many years putting other's needs before their own. You are allowed to explore yourself. You are allowed to put yourself first. It may feel impossible, but research has shown that it is not sustainable to only pour into others without pouring into ourselves first. The question I'd like to pose is, what if, treating yourself less like a project to fix, and more like a human being worthy of kindness could actually get you closer to the life you want?

Do you feel a loss of meaning, pain from a difficult past, or feelings of anxiety and overwhelm? Are you struggling with relationship conflict or renegotiation? When people have experienced complex trauma—whether it is oppression, child abuse, painful relationships, or the struggle of being alive—they often lose trust in themselves and others. Therapy is an opportunity to rebuild trust, redefine your sense of self, choose your values, shift your relationship to the past, create a life of meaning, and build relationship safety. I specialize in working with the LGBTQ, neurodivergent/autistic/ADHD, poly, and kink communities.

Hi:) Counseling is a way to bring ourselves back to self, in a deeper and real way. Learning about self and improving the awareness of self love, caring and exploring the most comfortable way to live our life. We spent too much time and energy to worry about things or holding too much fear of being judged, while we forgot that life was actually about my feeling not others expectation. It is not things make us stuck, it is our perspective. Yes, life is about perspective, counseling is just a journey that we work together to find the best fitful ways to make us worthy, cherished and loved by practicing or rebuilding.

Asian Therapists

Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?

A culturally sensitive therapist would be respectful and considerate of different groups, with regard to race, sexual orientation, gender, and other factors that are important to an individual. These considerations can help a client feel understood as well as validated. While some people think highlighting race could promote stereotypes and bias, more understanding and knowledge about cultural differences is a positive for a healthy therapeutic alliance.

How can I recognize an effective Asian therapist?

You can discern a lot by asking how familiar the potential therapist is with different cultures, as well as asking how they might address issues related to identity, values, and beliefs. Also inquire about their education, as well as any particular training they may have completed, such as cultural sensitivity or diversity and inclusion programs.

What if the therapist does not have my exact background?

The therapist may not share a client’s exact background, but the therapist may have plenty of hands-on experience as well as the sensitivity needed for therapeutic progress. Their sensitivity to different populations will help the client feel accepted and comfortable in sharing their concerns and difficulties.

How might I inquire about a therapist's experience with Asian clients?

A therapist with an Asian background may have experience within their community, as well as broader cultural sensitivity. Ask the potential therapist whether they've worked with individuals who share your background. If they have not worked with similar clients, they may well know someone who has such experience.

Who is included in Psychology Today's directory of Asian therapists?

The directory of Asian therapists includes professionals who have shared their ethnicity in their profiles. Psychology Today uses this information to assist clients in finding a therapist who can provide a cultural match. However, not all therapists choose to disclose their ethnicity in their profiles, and they may not appear in search results for this reason; also, when the number of therapists identified as Asian is limited, the directory will also show therapists with comprehensive experience working with clients from relevant backgrounds.
