“I’m so sad.” “I’m stuck.” “I’m lonely.” “I hate my life.” “I’m nervous about everything.” If these sentiments sound familiar, you have just taken the first step toward change. I have specialized training in the treatment of anxiety, depression, and complex trauma. I have unique experience in treating men and women with relationship issues as well as those contemplating, or in the process of, divorce. I have worked extensively with religiously observant individuals of the Catholic and Jewish faith, negotiating the tension between modern contemporary life and religious practice.

I believe that every individual can have agency in their life. I work with adolescents and young adults who experience anxiety, depression, grief, and relationship issues. I provide a warm and empathetic space for clients to express themselves authentically, as feeling heard can be deeply healing. I use evidence-based techniques from Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic, as well as mindfulness practices to help clients. These techniques can help reframe negative thoughts and calm the body. I empower clients to value their own strengths in order to develop confidence in themselves.

I have worked with individuals with a range of concerns, including depression, anxiety, and relationship/family issues.
My goal in working with patients is to provide a safe and calm environment to explore issues of concern to them. I understand that it is not always easy to speak about problems, but I believe that through careful listening and gentle inquiry, it is possible to begin to gain insight into feelings and behaviors. I very much respect the needs of each individual, and work in a way that recognizes that people have different ways of expressing themselves, and that it is critical to give people an opportunity to tell their own story in their own way, and in their own time.

I know it can be difficult to make the informed decision to start therapy. The idea of unpacking our thoughts, feelings, behaviors and emotions can feel overwhelming and intimidating. Your bravery toward facing your personal hardships and improving your overall quality of life is the first of many victories that you will experience in our time together. Whether you are suffering with anxiety and depression, undergoing life transitions, struggling with self-esteem, facing relationship issue or looking to understand your past to make sense of your present.

My practice includes clients struggling with depression, anxiety, relationships, identity, loss, gender, and sexuality.
Living with chronic illness can feel overwhelming at times, whether you’re newly diagnosed or have been managing your illness for years. As a nurse-psychotherapist, I understand the loneliness, fear, anger, shame, and vulnerability that may surface, often at unexpected moments. Yet managing life with chronic illness also presents tremendous opportunities for growth and insight, creativity and humor. Attention to the emotional aspects of illness and the body can lead in therapy to discovering new ways of caring for one's self, of moving through the world with more agency and joy, of being more genuinely, fully, with others.

Psychotherapy is a transformative journey that can lead to self-discovery and empowerment. I work with children, adolescents, and adults to help with a spectrum of life's challenges, including anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, issues of self-esteem, emotion dysregulation, and social anxiety. I aim to create a safe space for exploration and growth, fostering an emotional environment that empowers individuals to delve into their thoughts, feelings, and unconscious motivations. I work through a psychodynamic lens, helping to construct a narrative that links the impact of our early experiences to who we are today.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
