Living with chronic illness can feel overwhelming at times, whether you’re newly diagnosed or have been managing your illness for years. As a nurse-psychotherapist, I understand the loneliness, fear, anger, shame, and vulnerability that may surface, often at unexpected moments. Yet managing life with chronic illness also presents tremendous opportunities for growth and insight, creativity and humor. Attention to the emotional aspects of illness and the body can lead in therapy to discovering new ways of caring for one's self, of moving through the world with more agency and joy, of being more genuinely, fully, with others.
As a specialist in the psychological dynamics of illness, I work with people with Type 1 and 2 diabetes, inflammatory bowel disease, cystic fibrosis, fibromyalgia, RA, bleeding disorders, celiac disease, cancer, and many other conditions. My practice includes clients struggling with depression, anxiety, relationships, identity, loss, gender, and sexuality.
People often seek counseling when coping mechanisms no longer seem to work, or when loss or absence -of love, freedom, health- feel too much to bear alone. Collaborating with a skilled, compassionate therapist can help you navigate currents of complex thoughts and feelings, through a relationship in which suffering can be recognized and transformed. Welcome.
