My name is Angela Perez, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. For the past 21 years, I have worked in community mental health in the South Los Angeles Area serving children, teens, and adults dealing with grief/loss, trauma, depression, and anxiety. Some of the approaches I use are Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Interpersonal Psychotherapy. I best describe myself as an “Eclectic Therapist.” My approach to therapy varies based on the needs of the clients I serve.
My main focus as a therapist is to “give witness to the client’s story” and “to help clients live the best life that they can.” My clinical experience includes working with individuals dealing with trauma, grief/loss, anxiety, and depression, as well as, working with families being impacted by a loved one’s substance abuse issue.
As a therapist, I like to meet clients where they are at. When it comes to establishing treatment goals, I believe it’s a collaborative process between the client and therapist. I also believe that goals can evolve and be modified throughout treatment; however, nothing can be accomplished without establishing a therapeutic relationship first.
