I have been working as a mental health professional since 2017 and I have worked with children, adolescents, and adults experiencing a myriad of struggles such as depression, anxiety, substance abuse, life changes, and trauma among other issues.
Do you find yourself struggling with things you’re going through? Are you feeling unsure on what next steps to take in your life? Do you notice there are things that you’re having trouble moving forward from and letting go of? Most importantly: do you believe you’re ready for a healthy change in your life? Therapy is often a first step to discovering answers to these questions and learning ways to cope in our lives that work best within your lifestyle and who you are. It can provide us the safe space we need to share, gain insight through an objective and non-judgmental perspective, and make drastic changes for the better.

Do you ever ask yourself why? Why am i going through what I am going through? Why cant i just "get over" it or move past it? The clients that I commonly work with are clients that are ready for a change. They have either tried to change on their own, or they have realized that in order to have lasting change they need a good support system. Many clients that I work with deal with depression, anxiety, bipolar, personality disorders, substance use issues, relationship issues, and issues dealing with daily life.

My goal is to take a holistic approach, to see the client as a unique individual and expert of their own life, and tailor the treatment to reflect what would best serve their needs. I would like to share with clients techniques that incorporate evidence-based practices, as well as mindfulness and positivity, to teach them how to calm their over-stressed nervous systems, to gain clarity in their chaotic lives, and unload burdens in a safe and therapeutic environment without judgement.

Somethings can be so sensitive or difficult we cannot talk to those who are involved. Maybe we need to discuss issues with those we are closest to us but can't or don't know how without causing conflict. At times we need someone who will listen judgment free. Relationships (self and with others) become “complicated” and impact our ability to function in our lives and cause distress and/or dysfunction often leading to poor coping and adapting skills, leading to depression, anxiety, suicide idealization, etc. Our sessions end organically. Our focus is on you and not arbitrary time restraints. We also offer 24 hour emergency support.

It's easy to feel stressed, depressed, anxious, or like you are just generally unable to cope with everything. Circumstances in life can lead people to feeling unvalued, unheard, and overwhelmed. I use a holistic approach to help my clients get back to feeling their best mentally, physically, and spiritually. I want everyone to feel like they are in control of their lives and able to cope with the things that come their way. My goal as a therapist, and as a person, is to always make sure that everyone feels welcomed, valued, and accepted.

With depression you could lack motivation to make the first call, or send the first email for an appointment.
Do you find yourself feeling "stuck" in life? Do you feel unsatisfied with the way your life "should" or "shouldn't" be? Therapy is a great way to discuss these concerns with a professional and to learn ways to take control over what feels like the uncontrollable.

I utilize evidence-based methods with adolescents, adults & couples dealing with the effects of trauma, abuse, anxiety, depression, loss/grief & emotional/relational issues.
We each have a unique story. Often, those stories can include very difficult & painful events or seasons that can negatively impact our view of ourselves, how we relate with others, & our ability to live & cope with life in the ways that we desire. This can lead to feeling confused, overwhelmed, exhausted, stuck, or even hopeless. Trauma, loss, difficult relationships, & other life disappointments can all wreak havoc on our bodies, minds, emotions & relationships. Things CAN be different. Relief, growth & healing are possible. It takes tremendous courage to reach out for help. We are not meant to walk our journeys alone.

I am trained in cognitive behavior therapy; a type of talk therapy that has been demonstrated to be highly effective in treating anxiety and depression.
I'm a licensed clinical social worker living in Lake Charles, Louisiana, with my husband and two rescue dogs; Pip and Pierre. I attended graduate school at the University of Alabama in my 40's after careers in other fields. I, like so many of my clients, was searching for purpose and meaning in my life. Clinical social workers complete two years of post graduate clinical training and must pass a clinical licensing exam. It was at this point that I began working with clients across the spectrum of age, race, sexual identity and income. Yet most of us long for the same thing; to be loved, to belong, to feel satisfied and to be happy.

I work with clients on anxiety, depression, working through relationship issues, and parent/child conflict to name a few.
Working with teens and early twenties is my specialty. This age group has unique needs and wants. They are trying to figure out who they are and what they want to pursue in life. Often times certain events or ways of thinking can start to interfere with this stage of maturing. The young people I work with are striving to belong, feel good about themselves and succeed.

I work with a wide variety of people on an array of issues. For those who have never talked to a therapist or counselor before, I strive to help them feel comfortable and unconditionally accepted in this important encounter. Many have already had some therapy in the past, and I enjoy enhancing their experience through new and dynamic interventions, building on the individual's own strength and knowledge. Together we will identify changes that you want to make and discuss the best interventions to enhance these changes. I am an experienced therapist who can help facilitate insight, awareness, and skill building.

Anxiety, Depression, PTSD, and general life stresses can be overwhelming. How would it feel to like yourself more? How would it feel to wake up in a life you love, with habits that help you feel fulfilled and whole? Together, we can overcome the things that are holding you back. I view counseling as “new skills for old problems” or “more tools for your toolbox.” There really are practical solutions for anxiety, depression, and all of life’s challenges and difficult seasons. Counseling can help you find those solutions, and it can help you overcome the roadblocks that keep you from succeeding.

I am passionate about walking with people along their path of personal growth and development. I have helped clients move through transitions in their lives, recognize their own self-worth and overcome patterns of depression, anxiety and low self-esteem. I see life as a journey and am interested in helping clients get in touch with their own natural wisdom and intuition as a source of guidance and direction. Just like any part of nature, when we connect with our true essence, we find a state of balance, healing and wholeness.

Depression Therapists

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognize and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioral activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
