Is your child suffering from symptoms related to attention, hyperactivity, depressed mood, learning challenges? For these reasons and more, Neurofeedback (NFB) can help your child tap into the power of their brain to enhance their quality of life.
I am an individual and women's issues counselor licensed in Alabama with over 20 years of experience working as a psychotherapist. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression , anxiety and ADHD. One of my specialities is neurofeedback for children with ADHD. Why look into Neurofeedback? Neurofeedback promotes a sense of internal control, by helping the brain to regulate itself. Once regulated, brainwave activity tends to remain regulated throughout the child's lifetime, sometimes eliminating or lessening the need for medications.

All of us feel stuck and discouraged at times. Anxiety, Depression , PTSD, and general life stresses can be overwhelming. How would it feel to like yourself more? How would it feel to wake up in a life you love, with habits that help you feel fulfilled and whole? Together, we can overcome these things that are holding you back. I view counseling as “new skills for old problems” or “more tools for your toolbox.” There really are practical solutions for dealing with life’s challenges and difficult seasons. Counseling can help you find those solutions, and it can help you overcome the roadblocks that keep you from succeeding.

Somethings can be so sensitive or difficult we cannot talk to those who are involved. Maybe we need to discuss issues with those we are closest to us but can't or don't know how without causing conflict. At times we need someone who will listen judgment free. Relationships (self and with others) become “complicated” and impact our ability to function in our lives and cause distress and/or dysfunction often leading to poor coping and adapting skills, leading to depression , anxiety, suicide idealization, etc. Our sessions end organically. Our focus is on you and not arbitrary time restraints. We also offer 24 hour emergency support.

I specialize in trauma-related issues, grief and loss, depression , life transitions, anxiety, and developing healthy boundaries.
Part of being human means that we all fall out of line at times whether that’s mentally, emotionally, physically, spiritually or energetically. Realigning to who you were born to be is one of the bravest step one can take. Drawing from both traditional and holistic approaches, my goal as your counselor is to hold space and acceptance for you as you navigate life’s journey and the many paths you happen to stumble upon. I am here to witness you thrive and become your most authentic self. In my office, you are safe to process your deepest thoughts and emotions while gaining the tools, empowerment and insight to do so.

With depression you could lack motivation to make the first call, or send the first email for an appointment.
Do you find yourself feeling "stuck" in life? Do you feel unsatisfied with the way your life "should" or "shouldn't" be? Therapy is a great way to discuss these concerns with a professional and to learn ways to take control over what feels like the uncontrollable.

I work with adults 18 years and up, treating anxiety in its many forms (OCD, worry, fear, panic), mood problems ( depression , bipolar), trauma, grief, relationship issues, military lifestyle issues, and health-related concerns.
Feeling emotionally uncomfortable may signal that change is presenting you with an opportunity. But maybe you're not sure what to do about it. Using cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness are what will help us identify old patterns of thinking and acting which may be causing problems for you in the present. My counseling work focuses on you as a whole person and respects the dimensions of mind, body and spirit. This is a safe, confidential place to explore your feelings and expand your options.

I have a passion for helping others, and specialize in the areas of women’s issues, eating disorders, body image, self-esteem, anxiety, and depression .
“When a person realizes he has been deeply heard, his eyes moisten. I think in some real sense he is weeping for joy. It is as though he were saying, ‘Thank God, somebody heard me. Someone knows what it’s like to be me" (Carl Rogers). I believe that therapy is an equal partnership and I view my clients as experts in their own lives. Through mutual respect, empathetic listening, and positive regard, I work alongside my clients to help them find resolution and peace.

I have worked with clients with various life problems such as work stress, family conflict, anxiety, depression , trauma symptoms, and parenting problems. While I have the most experience working with teenagers, in recent years I have branched out to work with adults and younger children. I have helped clients identify, process, and move past what is blocking them from living the life they want. I come from a therapeutic style of compassion, understanding, educating, and not judging. I believe that we all need to have a kind, unbiased, and honest person with whom we can trust to help where we need it sometimes.

Depression Therapists
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
