As a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist & Professional Counselor, I am dedicated to helping couples work through the difficulties of married life to achieve better communication, greater emotional connection, and a more satisfying marriage.
Life can be hard! If you are struggling with challenges such as: marriage or relationship issues, infidelity, anxiety, depression, divorce, job loss, or low self-esteem maybe it is time to do something different. If your current efforts to deal with relationships, emotions, and life's challenges just aren't working, it is probably time to get some help. Maybe you're unsure if counseling really works. Counseling is no "magic pill" that instantly fixes your problems! However, it does help many people change, heal, and improve their quality of life.

We, as human beings, crave connection and intimacy in our lives. We want to be seen, understood, and appreciated in our relationships with ourselves, the people we love, and the people who love us. Sex and sexuality are often at the root of these connections. Our perceptions of sex and sexuality are fluid and naturally change as we go through life. Communication surrounding consent, affection, sexuality, and intimacy is often avoided due to the taboo nature of sex. At Fluidity Counseling, we strive to provide a safe place to navigate through the shame and stigma that can accompany these conversations.

My mission is to help people gain answers, satisfying changes, and self-counseling skills, in any area of life which is giving excess pain and frustration. These aspects of life include personal issues such as trauma, defensive walls, and any other barriers to life satisfaction, pains resonating between mind and body, relationship quandaries, life aspirations, philosophy, and spirituality. As an Integrated Mental Health practitioner, I help you find providers, knowledge and self-help practices, for medical and naturopathic mind-body health. I also work with artists on performance psychology.

My practice, for more than thirty years, has focused on helping a broad range of individuals and families in the area. I have stayed deliberately diverse in the populations that I serve, as well as issues addressed. One of the joys of practicing a long time in one place is having long term relationships with families and groups of people through their having referred their loved ones to me, or coming back in when a new life change or crisis occurs.

When your life doesn’t fit the stories they tell, when your experience doesn’t match a list of symptoms, when you’re ready to find, or perhaps recover, your voice. Many people feel silenced simply because their struggles and strengths are unfamiliar and misunderstood, or even denied, by others. The fear of being deemed unacceptable can be paralyzing.

Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
