Therapy should be fun. It should be something you look forward to, not something you push yourself to get through. I want you to leave the counseling session feeling lighter, more energized, and more enthusiastic about your future. My goal is to enthrive; and to help you do the same for yourself. Counseling with me is a series of skill sessions for your brain, to help it develop new methods of looking at the past and relating to the future. Together we can create your new outlook on life. Call or check out Enthrive North to find out more.

I specialize in racial identity, adoption, LGBTQ+, social justice, and spirituality.
We can get stuck in unhealthy relational patterns with ourselves and others that impact our mood and sense of self. We fear disconnection, rejection, and loneliness. What we desire is to be heard, known, and valued by others. What I hope to provide is a space and partner to acknowledge and express our needs, understand our roles, set boundaries with others, and feel safe and secure in ourselves. Together we can foster a deeper understanding of yourself and provide tools to help cope with life's challenges.

Embarking on counseling takes courage as you take proactive steps towards change. Courage to recognize your life isn’t the way you want it and that it can be different, that you can feel different. Life presents us with challenges, and at times, we all need help in navigating them. Whether it’s coping with a loss of dream, managing anxiety, processing grief, or facing feelings of overwhelm or burnout, seeking help is a valuable step. When challenges accumulate, support can be crucial to navigate complex relationships, disappointments, and address mental health issues through building resilience and cultivating self-awareness.

As human beings living in a broken world, we experience the weight of the complexities of our lives in various ways. Sometimes we don't even notice what our bodies are trying to tell us until it feels too late, when we feel overwhelmed and hopeless or so alone. Sometimes the anxiety can feel like it is dictating how we live our life. Or the ways we have tried to cope seem to be causing more trouble for us whether simply internally, relationally or in our ability to function in life. We all hold the stories of our circumstances, traumas and genetic makeup in our bodies, hearts and minds.

Whether young, old or in between, we all have the power within us to change our story and welcome healing and wellness into our lives. As Rumi once said, "The dark thought, the shame, the mailce. I consider counseling a safe space to share struggles that we are facing in this world. Life can be hard, lonely, and overwhelming at times for all ages. Having support for yourself as you navigate through difficult feelings, situations, and decisions is what counseling provides. I believe that we all want to live at our true potential and sometimes that takes a refresh or deep look at how we are currently functioning. Life is a journey meant to be experienced with others.

Adoption Therapists
Does my adopted child need therapy?
Not every adopted child needs therapy. However, many can benefit from seeing an adoption-informed therapist, especially if they were victims of abuse or neglect, appear withdrawn or disconnected, have behavioral or developmental issues (which may or may not be related to their adoption), are struggling with feelings of grief or loss surrounding their birth parents, or find it difficult to establish an identity, a challenge that often becomes most apparent during adolescence.
When should adoptive parents seek therapy?
Prospective parents can benefit from therapy even before an adoption—for example, to voice worries and fears; to reconcile infertility struggles, if relevant; or simply to prepare themselves for parenthood. After the adoption, parents who are struggling to bond with their child; are unsure how to talk about adoption or related issues, such as race; or whose child is dealing with developmental, behavioral, or psychiatric concerns can address these and other issues with the help of an adoption-competent therapist.
Is family therapy appropriate for adoptive families?
Family therapy can be invaluable for strengthening the bond between adoptive parents and children, helping the latter feel more secure in their place in the family. Family therapy can also help adoptive families navigate complex communication issues—for example, parents who feel uncomfortable discussing race with their child, who in turn feels invalidated by their silence, or a child who has questions about his birth parents but avoids asking them out of fear of hurting his adoptive parents’ feelings.
What therapy is not appropriate for adoption issues?
A discredited therapy known as “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy” or “rebirthing therapy”) should not be used to treat adopted and foster children, though it was largely designed for this population. Attachment therapy involves restraining, coercing, and punishing the child in order for them to “release” negative emotions and attach to their new caregivers—techniques that are abusive and dangerous and have even proven fatal in some cases.
