Therapy provides a supportive framework to be present with life's ups and downs and examine life experiences in a new way. This exploration can help you understand yourself better, break old patterns, accept yourself radically, enrich your relationships, and grow. Regardless of your unique process, I believe you have the inherent wisdom and resilience to be present, heal, find joy & ease, and love yourself more. My approach is collaborative, relational, and emotion-focused, with a little humor thrown in. I have over 15 years experience as a social worker and therapist in various settings including hospitals and integrative health.

I am autistic, and a neurodiversity-affirming professional. This means I do not seek to change others, but focus on strength and adaptation, not assimilation. We can dig into life's fundamental questions: Who am I, what do I want, why am I here, and who should journey with me? I am not a therapist, but instead, I specialize in consulting and coaching those who want to develop healthier relationships with themselves and others. Our work together might focus on recovering from past mistakes, understanding how we came to those mistakes, and learning to make different choices and decisions in the future. It might be learning to say no.

I enjoy working with clients from all different backgrounds who are willing to make a change in their life. Counseling can be hard at times, yet very rewarding, and it is important to find the right counselor for you. I practice from a primarily Solution Focused background while including techniques from CBT, REBT, and Adlerian theory. I aim to bring honesty, authenticity, and reliability into each session.

“Healing takes courage, and we all have courage, even if we have to dig a little to find it.” I see my life as a mission to help others see themselves in their original beauty, to learn the truth about who they are so they can be set free, to assist them in opening to their own unique destiny, and to work through beliefs and behaviors that keep them trapped in old ways of being. This is work I have had to do on myself, and still continue to do. I believe in using a holistic approach, which addresses every level of our being - the body, emotions, mind, and spirit.

Accepting NEW Clients (ages 18-65) as of 6/3/24 for Medication Management (I am not taking clients for therapy). Appointments are available in 2 weeks. Complete the Patient Inquiry Form on my website. You will receive a response the same or next day. My practice is primarily composed of adults struggling with anxiety and depression. I find that people reach out to treatment when excessive worry, low motivation, and negative thinking can lead to feeling less confident in their work, behind on tasks at home, and impacting their relationships. I don't treat ADHD and I don't prescribe controlled substances, such as Xanax for anxiety.

I work with individuals, couples, and families hoping to heal past trauma, improve communication and find new possibilities. You may be feeling anxious, depressed, and confused about what your next steps in life should be. These feelings may be related to relationship distress, problems in communication with family members, big life changes, or work stress. I work collaboratively with individuals, families and partners who want to foster connection and form deeper, more loving relationships.

Self Esteem Therapists

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?

When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?

Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?

Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
