Opening up and being vulnerable can be a challenge for all of us, especially as we begin to find ourselves. We all need someone in our corner cheering us on, who is also willing to shed light on our parts that may be holding us back. I am a clinician focused on embracing and celebrating who we are, while identifying areas for growth. There is no greater privilege than witnessing a client transform into someone who loves their authentic self. Adolescence and young adulthood are times for exploration and growth, I look forward to meeting each version of my clients.

I work with people who want to reclaim the story of their lives. Some of us lost years living out someone else's life- -but it's never too late to become yourself. You can determine the genre of story you live in, the type of protagonist you become. I try to help people deal with the excitement that comes with infinite potential and the dread that comes with infinite choice.

Growing as a family is hard. You want to have it "all together" but deep down you are struggling to feel confident or cope with the challenging experiences that have occurred in your life. Perhaps you’re a parent who is starting to catch glimpses of your own parents in yourself despite your best attempts to avoid exactly that. Maybe you and your partner keep running into the same issues again and again. Or, maybe you have a creative teen who has been struggling and it's been hard to find a therapist who they can connect with and be real. You just want some relief as you find your way through this phase in life.

As a therapist, I am known to be relational, even-keeled, and collaborative. My approach is dynamic and personable. I help clients attune to their needs, learn how to ground themselves when overwhelmed and overexerted, regain trust and confidence in their abilities, and find opportunities for more meaningful connections. For some, this involves specific skill-building, social coaching, exposure, or trauma work; for others, this involves simply holding the space to talk it out.

I believe therapy is for everyone and that finding the right therapist is key for progress and recovery. Our lives are full of emotionally traumatizing experiences relating to family, rejection, shame, self hatred, regret, breakups, divorce, difficulty with parenting, grief & loss, transitioning beliefs, and many other aspects of unprocessed and undisclosed pain. I would love to be a supportive environment for anyone who commits to growth no matter their values, religion, preferred & identifying gender, sexual orientation, race, and/or ethnicity.

Are you looking for a sex therapist to help you navigate issues like sexual frequency, sexual shame, relational communication, infidelity, and sexual disorders (i.e., erectile dysfunction, painful intercourse, anorgasmia, low sex drive/arousal, out of control sexual behaviors)? I work with individuals, couples, people navigating non-monogamy, and other sexual minorities who often feel there are things about sex and their sexuality that they should know but haven't been able to ask or explore. It is important to me to create a safe space for you to learn the information that will enhance your sex life and relationship.

I have always been interested in people’s stories, understanding how they see the world as they do, and how they have overcome challenges. Each of us has a rich, often complicated history that led us to the present moment. As a psychologist, it is an honor and privilege to get to know my patients’ histories, understand what got them here, and help them to be who they want to be in the world.

As humans we are constantly navigating internal and external stress, expectations and criticism. When we can explore our internal landscape in the presence of a loving other, we can also discover more compassion and presence with Self. I work with individuals, couples and families who hope for change and want more from life, but have not been able to understand how they ended up in their current circumstances or patterns. Together we can identify and move through what has created resistance in your life. More Being represents consciousness, remembering who you are and living it with balance, movement, exploration and freedom.

I understand that change is achieved through the creation of a safe, trusting relationship, making space to have your story heard, your strengths recognized, and your emotions witnessed. Creating that type of space requires lots of realness and a little time.

Transgender Therapists

As a gender-diverse individual, why might I want to see a therapist who is also gender diverse?

A trans or gender-diverse client may want to see a therapist who is also trans or gender diverse because the client may feel safer sharing their experiences and more confident that the therapist will understand, validate, and support them. But trans or gender-diverse clients can also benefit from therapy with cisgender therapists; this is a personal decision based on the connection between the client and the therapist, and if that connection is strong, therapy will be successful.

What if I cannot find a therapist who shares my gender identity?

Therapy can still be effective if a therapist does not share a client’s gender identity; a large body of research indicates that the most important factor in successful therapy is the therapeutic alliance. A therapist can also be interviewed for sensitivity and competence on gender identity and expression to ensure they possess appropriate knowledge and skills. Many therapists have excellent training and extensive experience working with gender-diverse clients, and that expertise can be invaluable despite a therapist not sharing the same firsthand experiences.

How can I recognize a good therapist for working with gender-diverse clients?

An experienced therapist should be able to help clients explore their gender identity and expression, alleviate discomfort related to their gender identity, treat mental health challenges and trauma, address existing relationships and communication with family members and loved ones, and determine the next steps pertaining to nonmedical or medical gender-affirming interventions. To recognize a good therapist, clients can ask about these topics and explore their comfort and connection with the clinician.

How might I inquire about a therapist’s experience working with transgender clients?

Clients should feel comfortable asking therapists directly about their experience working with transgender or gender-diverse clientele. For example, clients may ask about the therapist’s training and education with regard to gender identity, how many trans clients they’ve worked with in the past, and what sorts of matters were discussed. You may wish to inquire how a therapist specifically supports the needs of transgender clients or clients questioning their gender identity. A good clinician who is nonetheless not the right fit for you is often happy to make referrals to others based on the concerns you articulate in a preliminary conversation.
