Neurodiversity refers to variances in how our brains function. This can include neurodevelopmental issues such being on the autism spectrum, having ADHD, auditory or sensory processing issues, learning disabilities, and/or neurologically based mental health issues such as chronic anxiety, depression, OCD, or PTSD. These differences in brains styles affect how people perceive the world, communicate, and express and receive love. We do this by offering therapy, coaching, consultation, or education for individuals, couples and families, as well as business consultations.

There are times when the best decision is to seek an outside, unbiased, professional to help renew balance in our lives. I see my role as that of a sounding board for options, with the final decision for action made by the client. Through empathetic questioning, acceptance and reframing we will discover the underlying reason for your current issue. My approach is supportive, with a focus on resolution. It is your time, your agenda. I work with adults and adolescents. I specialize in depression, anxiety, relationships and life transitions, although I work with a wide variety of other issues.

Do you find yourself trying to make everyone around you happy but yourself? Do you try to intellectualize your way out of your feelings? Do you feel on edge or anxious most of the time? Our minds and bodies do a wonderful job of helping us survive traumatic experiences, but these survival techniques can also begin to impact our connection with ourselves, our relationships, our purpose, and much more. Through exploring past experiences, strengthening the mind-body connection, and continuing to be curious and compassionate towards self, we can begin to shift ourselves out of survival mode into a life we choose.

Feeling overwhelmed, hopeless or stuck? When feeling miserable, life is not moving in the direction we want, and everything we have tried so far has not worked - it can lead to despair. These feelings are only made worse when we believe that there is no one we can turn to or no one else could understand. I am here to say that despite how it may seem right now, these feelings do not have to dominate your life. Working together, we will review factors that contribute to these feelings and work on new strategies so that you can move closer to the life you want to live.

I often support active adults, athletes and the outdoor/adventure community- those who say "running, skiing, hiking, etc. is my therapy." I help people through experiences with change and uncertainty, stress and anxiety, authenticity and identity, career development, grief, injury, and outdoor-related accidents/ trauma. Sometimes the challenge is directly related to a sport or outdoor experience, and sometimes it's not. Along the traverse of life, we all encounter challenging parts that ask us to dig deep, expand, catch our breath, or make change. I'm here to help.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
