Establishing sobriety can be difficult, even If you've been to treatment multiple times. Or maybe you are struggling to watch a loved one that is using alcohol or drugs. I also work with people who experience stress related to other mental illness like anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and trauma. If your unsure about what to do next, or anxious about talking to someone, a phone call or an email are great places to start.

I specialize in working with young women, anxiety disorders, adult children of parents with mental illness, and/or helping professionals who may be struggling with wellbeing or burnout - I find there are often overlaps in all of these. My primary goal in therapy is to provide a safe space where you feel you can be open and curious - our work starts there. My therapy approach is warm, collaborative, and holistic. My greatest focus will be on helping you develop a deeper awareness of and compassion for yourself, so you can feel more empowered to make the choices in your life that feel aligned with your values, identity, and purpose.

I have immediate availability. My ideal client is someone facing significant adversity—whether it's the aftermath of trauma, substance abuse, psychosis, or harmful behaviors. They might be struggling with the impacts of discrimination, systemic involvement, or losing hope. They need someone who understands their unique challenges and is committed to helping them find strength and resilience. Their goal is to break free from the cycles of hardship and to rebuild their lives, finding stability and fulfillment. They want to be heard, supported, and guided towards effective strategies for positive change.

Mental health has always carried stigma; most commonly people learn at an early age, "we don't talk about it." Differing events in life can cause symptoms of depression, anxiety, and many other mental health conditions. Whether you are struggling with an adjustment period or need help processing years of trauma, I can help you. My passion is within helping individuals and families reach their full potential and goals.

I work best with adolescent and adult clients who appreciate a direct, to-the-point approach. I give lots of feedback and make my thoughts known. This approach tends to open up awarenesses that may have been unknown for a very long time. It is exciting to see this process unfold in individual psychotherapy.

Relationships are vital to becoming a whole person, including your relationship with yourself. But quality relationships don't happen by accident. Real love is built the old fashioned way - through hard work. Whether you're struggling with how you view and treat yourself or struggling with others, therapy is a wise investment and can help you learn to manage the very best of who you are. This involves developing a skill set that will enable you to learn how powerful you really are in forming lasting connections with others and take an honest look at the barriers to those connections.

My therapeutic lens is rooted in the tenants of social work and social justice. As a clinician I meet clients where they are and recognize that no person functions outside of their environment. So as we delve into issues of mental health symptoms, we will also be investigating how society at large plays a role in our health. I lean heavily on psychodynamic processing and a focused mindfulness practice called Brainspotting. I also engage clients through CBT, DBT, and narrative therapy. I am LGBTQIA+ friendly (and a part of the community, too), and am continually in the process of being anti-racist.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
