Are you feeling stuck or trapped with behaviors or thoughts that no longer serve you? Maybe you have seen a few therapists, talked endlessly about your trauma, learned coping skills, and you know in your mind that it’s over and in the past but your body still feels disconnected, on high alert, or both. I am certified in EMDR Therapy, a trauma-focused therapy that works with our brain’s natural capacity to digest difficult experiences that keep us stuck. Whether your lived experiences have led you to struggle with depression, emotion dysregulation, or relationship difficulties; I am here to carry it with you.

My ideal client would be parents or caregivers seeking treatment for their children with behavioral, emotional, and social problems, such as ODD, ADHD, anxiety, depression, and other typical childhood issues. These clients would be interested in a parent training format for the treatments, indicating a willingness to actively participate in the therapy process and work collaboratively with the therapist. Additionally, the ideal client would be open to utilizing technology for teletherapy sessions, as my services are presented in an online therapy platform.

Hi there. I’m not sure what has taken place in your life to search for a counselor, but I imagine you as brave for doing just that. The idea of opening the door into change is a risky prospect – what will the journey be like on the other side? Sometimes the unknown in itself is enough to keep us married to our current predicament. And yet, there’s still a part of you (however large or small right now) that wonders about something different. I think of that part as Hope. Hope stirs curiosity inside of us and invites us to reimagine our circumstances. Hope has led you here.

Challenges in life help us cultivate strength and build resiliency. Sometimes these challenges take us in directions that we never thought possible, promoting healing and happiness. It's these challenges that help us grow emotionally, strengthening and enabling us to handle the daily stressors that come our way. I want to personally thankyou for taking the first step to seek counseling as I know it can be hard. My Goal is to honor the space that you're in and walk with you on a journey to optimal wellness focusing on the whole person; Mind Body and Soul!

We all go through transitions in our lives and seeking help sorting things out can be very challenging and overwhelming. It is my role to listen while providing you a safe place to explore your feelings and why you think the way you do. Together we will develop strategies for making changes or coping with the status quo.

Sexual Abuse Therapists

How do therapists treat sexual abuse?

A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?

Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?

Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?

As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
