I'm glad you're looking for support! Though therapy isn’t only for our hardest moments, there are times when life’s stresses overwhelm our ability to cope. Perhaps you are grieving a loss or struggling to adapt to change. Maybe you are battling feelings of anxiety or depression. Or the effects of trauma. Maybe you are simply feeling stuck in patterns that keep you mentally and physically in places you no longer want to be in. You are not alone and you can feel better. I believe that anyone can develop the innate skills and courage necessary to change and that everyone deserves to be safely and securely themselves.

Ecotherapy in Chicago! In our society loneliness persists and collective grief is carried, I turn to the logic of nature which holds the journey of life, death, and rebirth. Problems are rites of passage through this cycle, whether intimacy issues in relationships, a child’s "misbehavior,” anxiety or depression. These ordeals reveal new avenues for growth in embodiment, awareness, strategy building, and meaning making. Systems Theory, Jungian and Adlerian Depth Psychology, Ecotherapy, Sandtray, Meditation, and Ritual building all contribute to my holistic lens to the human experience.

I am adept at helping people navigate anxiety and emotional woundings, and I can help you navigate grief and loss.
Therapy can heal wounds and create more rewarding relationships. I am not interested in simply pathologizing you and your challenges. Instead, I work with you to examine how your experience of the world has shaped your reality and your relationship with your self. During sessions, I will encourage you to narrate your life with full autonomy. I will ask you questions that promote deeper reflections. I might challenge some of your thinking, but I will also help you to trust me. Doing so will allow you to develop a new, different awareness that responds to the deepest motivations and meanings in life.

I focus on and have experience treating trauma related symptoms and disorders, anxiety, depression, attachment disruptions, relational issues, family conflict, survivors of childhood abuse, survivors of sexual assault, as well as loss and grief.
We often start the healing process feeling lost, unsure if we’ll ever feel better. Or maybe when life has knocked us down and we don’t know which way to go next, maybe it feels too hard to keep going. If any of these resonate with you, I’m glad you’re here. As a therapist, I work as a guide for my clients. I do my best to help you get in touch with that deep knowledge of what you need to do to heal by providing space to explore and dig deeper. I offer myself as a witness to your story, your life, your experiences, and as a mirror to your inherent worth.

My areas of clinical strength include chronic illness, cancer, grief, life transitions, identity development, ADHD, anxiety, and depression.
Major life changes, such as being diagnosed with a chronic illness, starting a new career path, losing a loved one, or becoming a caregiver, can be overwhelming. They can make us question our values, goals, and sense of self. In these pivotal moments, therapy becomes a powerful tool to navigate our journey, make meaning and find our authentic voices. It's time to give yourself permission to evolve and embrace the process of self-discovery.

I assist individuals in managing stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, pregnancy and substance use issues, amongst other concerns.
I believe that therapy is an opportunity for growth and healing. I offer a safe, responsive environment that builds on the coping methods, survival strategies, and the inner wisdom that you have already implemented in your life. I place an emphasis on assisting people in advocating for themselves, which sometimes comes in the shape of creating healthier boundaries or learning how to better communicate your needs. We all deserve to move through life being loved for who we are.

My special expertise is working with people who want to feel better. People who want to explore themselves, who want help in figuring out why they feel bad, and what they can do in order to feel better. I create space where you can feel comfortable to talk about uncomfortable things. I help people dealing with depression, anxiety, loneliness, grief, substance abuse; those having relationship issues, that would include couples/marital, parent-child, brothers-sisters, coworkers, or friends. You'll find out that you're not so different from everyone else; we all struggle.

As a psychologist specializing in chronic, acute, and terminal medical diagnoses, as well as grief, loss, and caregiving, I have the experience to support you in every facet of your health and healing.
Are you facing a new medical diagnosis or grieving the life that you had before the diagnosis? A massive health change can leave you feeling isolated, anxious, and unsure of where to turn. You might also feel overwhelmed by all that there is to do now: How do I talk to my children and family? What if work finds out? How will I ever get through this? If you have recently received a chronic, acute, or terminal medical diagnosis, there is the added stress of navigating the medical system and the uncertainty of what is ahead. Eventually, the distress, anxiety, and sadness that comes as a result of these changes can feel all-consuming.

I also work with grief and aging.
Suffering is often the result of less than nurturing relationships and experiences. Fear can become imprisoned in the body. Family and culture can dictate how safe it is, or not safe, to express and be yourself. My immigrant experience from Taiwan allows me deeper empathy with people navigating life transitions and relating to different cultures and new relationships. At Embodied Way Psychotherapy PLLC, I strive to empower individuals within the context of systemic injustice and complications. My work is to provide compassion and wisdom so that you can feel fully alive and authentic in your body, your world and your relationships.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
