I have been working in the Chicago area with communities of different populations since 2010. My experience is largely with adolescents and young adults, but I also work with elementary age children as well as families and individuals with special needs. In my sessions, I like to utilize Art Therapy and mindfulness to help my clients learn to process their emotions and thoughts in a unique way. Areas that can be processed through art therapy can vary depending on client needs, but can include- trauma and acute stress, anxiety and depression, changes in family, academic difficulties, and much more.

One of my specialties is trauma and PTSD therapy.
If you’re struggling with a challenging situation in your life, it can feel overwhelming—but it doesn’t have to be that way. You deserve to experience happiness, confidence, and inner peace. I treat adults and adolescents struggling with depression, stress and anxiety, bipolar disorder, ADHD, PTSD, relationship concerns, and attachment issues. I also provide parenting support and couples counseling. My approach involves psychodynamic psychotherapy and relational therapy. I also introduce some cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT).

I also specialize in treating complex PTSD, adults with late-in-life ADHD diagnoses, and neurodivergent couples.
If you're someone who feels like they have "been there, done that" when it comes to therapy and are looking for deeper understanding of yourself and your relationships, I just might be your therapist. I'm someone who believes coping skills are fantastic, but challenging deeply-held emotional beliefs is what moves people towards lasting change. To do this, I make space for the people I work with to feel understood for exactly who they are. Because I know that when people are able to explore their full selves in a compassionate, curious way, they will be amazed at what they can change (or in some cases, learn to love and accept!).

I am trained in interpersonal, CBT, CBT-I, ACT, DBT, Biofeedback, Motivational Interviewing, the Gottman Method, and Trauma-informed therapies.
Often we are struggling and are unsure of why or what we can do about it. This can lead us to feel hopeless and helpless and often sets us up for additional worry and sadness. Assessment is a tool used to identify the cause of such struggles as well as your unique strengths that can support positive change.

The past several years have been challenging; both individually and collectively we have endured varied levels of trauma. Combine that with the struggles we were carrying pre-pandemic and it can sometimes feel impossible to properly address any of it. So many of us are feeling stuck, questioning our core beliefs, resulting in negative thought patterns and problematic behaviors. Allow me to help you untangle the problems and stress you are facing. It is not always easy asking for help, but one of my inherent values is that there is immense courage and resilience behind our ability to do so.

With over 30 years of experience, my private practice focuses on working with adults who experience anxiety, depression, trauma, low self-esteem, grief and loss, loneliness and who are going through a life transition. Having these barriers often prevent people from having meaningful and fulfilled lives. My clients have successfully learned to be calm, to become "unstuck" and feel confident about their capabilities and to improve their relationships with others. As a result, they have been able to manage their worries, sadness, anger, resentment, guilt, helplessness and the uncertainty of life challenges.

I have expertise in a variety of issues, specializing in depression, abuse, anxiety, spectrum disorders, depression, developmental issues, substance use, trauma, loss, and attachment issues.
I utilize a combination of somatically-focused, cognitive, and psychodynamic approaches to assist you in understanding your concerns. I'd love to help you address current changes you'd like to make, but also address underlying concerns so that current struggles are less likely to resurface. I specialize in tailoring treatments in developmentally attuned ways. With adults I assist clients in understanding how their life journeys have led them to their present concerns, and work on uncovering and undoing patterns you may find less effective.

Safety, acceptance, support, and challenge. These are what I offer as we collaborate on the road to thriving. Often we feel stuck, critical of ourselves, and hesitant to take steps toward change. The unfamiliar can frighten us into accepting our current circumstances. Let's work together and shift your feelings and thoughts that can lead you toward making changes in your life that get you to thriving! I work with people coping with anxiety, depression, PTSD, inaction, and a lack of connection. Often times folks have spent years of wondering 'what's wrong with me' or 'why can't I be happy'? I want to help you with these questions.

I specialize in working with clients who are navigating: PTSD, CPTSD, ADHD, LGBTQIA+, depression, anxiety, life transitions, and identity work with new mothers and issues related to the childbearing years.
Are you wondering how you can move out of just surviving and really begin to thrive? You might feel yourself working so hard but not moving the needle on creating the life you want for yourself. It is no easy feat to face life’s struggles and lifelong patterns and beliefs. Patterns we may or may not even be aware we are repeating. Often what is labeled as “symptoms” in mental health are really just our body’s way of signaling to us that the life we are currently living is not in alignment with our deepest desires. I am here to help guide you through this uncertainty so that I can help you be your most authentic self.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
