My ideal client is someone who wants to work on their issues. It’s not necessarily with someone who is without concerns about counseling, but someone who feels stuck. It may even be someone who has a sense about how to move forward, but wants some companionship on the road of change. I successfully deal with a physical disability so I often work with people who feel they can’t find a way to overcome their challenges whether it is mental illness, problems coping, physical disability or chronic illness. Generally I help people succeed in getting their lives back or who simply need some help moving forward.

The most important part of therapy is that you connect/feel safe with your therapist, and finding that therapist can be difficult, especially right now. I work primarily with adults and older teens struggling with anxiety, depression, eating disorders, grief, trauma, life transitions, and just trying to understand and make sense of their lives. I have experience working in eating disorder treatment as well as college counseling. While I am guided by a variety of approaches, including psychodynamic, attachment, existential, and mindfulness theories, the heart of my work is the attitude that healing comes through connection and that we move through difficult times by learning to continually open up to experience.

I work with adults experiencing difficulties due to effects from trauma, depression, anxiety, relationship conflicts, and changing life circumstances. My approach is to honor each individual where they are while helping them explore the root of difficult emotions and unwanted behavior or relationship patterns.

Pain and suffering can often cause us to feel disconnected from ourselves and others; and navigating the various pathways toward clarity, contentment, fulfillment, and peace can feel confusing and daunting. Many of us have felt the isolation of loneliness in the struggle to feel better. As a client-centered, trauma-informed, and relationally psychodynamic trained therapist, my goal is to deeply connect with my clients in a way in which they feel understood and supported. This process often opens a doorway to self-empowerment, which leads clients to a more thorough understanding of themselves, others, and the world around them.

I work carefully, with the contact between therapist and client providing the conduit for awareness, growth and healing. Most discomfort involves dissatisfying contact and the inability to slow down and look at fear, anxiety and what we want in a supportive and yet challenging environment. Together, we will explore and question thoughts, patterns and ideas that are often too difficult to face alone. This exploration is especially helpful with depression, anxiety and coming out issues.I am also available for trainings to agencies, groups and institutions.

My goal is to help you define and understand your best path forward. I seek to empower you to make the best choices that you can. I will not tell you what to do but I will help you explore what works best for you in your life.
