We work with depression, anxiety, self harm, trauma, suicidal thoughts, and borderline personality disorder.
I feel disconnected and alone. I don't have anyone around that really understands my problem. I don't want to burden my friends and family with my concerns. I'm worried someone will judge me if I tell them the truth. Have you had some of these thoughts? Fear of being judged or burdensome keeps a lot of people from finding the help they want.

I have worked with depression, anxiety, parenting issues, relationship issues, trauma, substance abuse, gray drinking in many different capacities.
Therapy is only as good as your relationship with your therapist. You want to find someone you feel comfortable sharing everything with because if you hold back how can you move towards healing? Therapy is shown to be effective not by how many credentials a person has but their ability to connect with their clients. There is nothing worse leaving your first session not wanting to come back and then feeling exhausted and apprehensive trying to find another therapist. I encourage you to reach out to the therapist to see if you like their vibe.

My areas of specialty include anxiety, depression, coping with new, chronic and/or complex medical issues, life transitions, and grief and loss.
One of the things that is most important to me in any relationship is authenticity. We want to know that we are able to form trusting and honest connections with others. I think this is true in any relationships but has special importance in the therapeutic relationship. I want to learn about who you really are and what it is you value. I work well with those who are willing to be open and a little uncomfortable in order to make meaningful changes. In therapy, we share a stance of curiosity. I have found that when we replace judgement with this curiosity, we can make the meaningful changes we desire.

Most of my experience has involved: depression/anxiety, self-harm behaviors and/or suicidal ideation, behavioral concerns, school problems, family and peer relationships, and stress/anger management.
Is your adolescent struggling in school? Are you having difficulty keeping his/her behavior under control? Is your child acting differently (isolating themselves, arguing more than usual, avoiding peers, self-harming)? Are you struggling with a divorced or blended family situation? I would love to be able to help you, your child, and your family. I have been working with at-risk, troubled youth and their families for over 15 years. This includes working closely with the school, juvenile system, and medical practitioners, as well.

I believe people can change, because I see it daily with my clients. I believe it because I lost over 130 pounds. My specialties include couples counseling, grief and loss, and trauma. I also have extensive experience working with depression, anxiety, and substance abuse. I know therapy can feel intimidating. Before becoming a therapist, I was a client and worked with a therapist on ways to improve my quality of life. This experience taught me what clients need. I know that the client/therapist relationship is the most important aspect of treatment. The better the relationship, the more healing that occurs.

A client who desires to accept partnership and engage in being open to change is the most ideal client. I prefer to work with adults and older adolescents struggling with addictions, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, and trauma. I have a vast amount of experience working in the field of trauma. Due to my experience working in community mental health, I also work well with those with intense mental health and substance abuse treatment needs. I have worked both inpatient and outpatient experiences, resulting in my flexibility to help stabilize in a crisis and to work with individuals at any level.

My training includes EMDR (trauma care), Family Systems, Grief/Loss, PSI (Pre/Postpartum Depression/Anxiety/OCD for moms/dads/families), Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Training (DBT).
Hi, I'm Michele. I'm glad you're here. I know how a situation, involving yourself or a loved one, can consume your life. I became a therapist because I've experienced similar circumstances. Those moments have led me to be an empathetic and effective counselor. We will take things at your pace. This is your time, and we will work together to find healing and growth.

I have worked extensively on issues of anxiety, depression, trauma and issues related to probation.
There are many reasons why someone might want to come to therapy. Are you feeling sad, worried, irritable or angry most of the time? Maybe it just feels hard to regulate your mood. You may have experienced trauma. You could be going through a difficult time in your life due to stress, grief or life changes. Your relationships with your friends or responsibilities at school might feel overwhelming or hard to manage. If you're a parent, you might notice these changes in your child or teen. Any of these situations can leave you feeling lonely, stuck or hopeless. I am here to help provide compassion, hope and trauma-informed care.

Depression Therapists

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognize and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioral activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
