I help others with anxiety, autism, ADHD, depression, grief, and trauma; my work is heavily influenced by attachment theories and Compassion Focused Therapy.
Life can be confusing, stressful, and overwhelming. A good therapist can create a comfortable, collaborative space to help you explore obstacles and strengths and find your stride in a chaotic world. My goal is to give you a place where you can foster self-awareness and learn to access the resiliency that can help you move forward. I see how insecurities and conflicts in interpersonal relationships can cause anxiety, and I'm compelled to help people resolve these issues. We are much more than our problems. Everyone deserves the ability to express themselves and feel more connected to themselves and others.

My focus with individuals includes reducing anxiety and depression, improving self esteem, navigating life transitions, processing trauma, understanding grief and improving interpersonal relationships.
Reaching out for a therapist is a courageous step on the path to change and personal growth. Oftentimes we are unable to make positive changes in our life because overwhelming emotions, negative thoughts and unproductive behavioral patterns block us from moving forward. Even when we know exactly what to do next, we can find ourselves unable to take the necessary steps to initiate change. My approach to therapy is collaborative, direct and compassionate. We will work together to address and contain your immediate challenges, to process unresolved issues and to help you find a deeper connection with the world around you.

Do you struggle with anxiety or depression, trouble sleeping, or maybe just getting through each day? Have you lost someone to suicide or suffered traumatic experiences that keep you from living a productive life? If you answered yes, then therapy may be able to help. I understand that seeking therapy takes courage, and that it is very difficult to take that first step to reach out for help. This is why I offer a free consultation to all prospective clients, so that we can have an opportunity to talk before we make a commitment to work together. I also offer a sliding fee scale, in order to make therapy as affordable as possible.

I view the problems in living that typically bring people to psychotherapy - anxiety, grief, despair, guilt, self-doubt - not merely as symptoms to be reduced or eliminated, but as an indispensable communication, from yourself to yourself, that something within you is clamoring to be expressed, witnessed, accepted, and integrated.
The therapeutic relationship is the single best predictor of therapy outcome as well as the primary agent of change. I invite you to join me in an authentic, collaborative partnership in which we co-create a space in which you can feel safe to explore, identify, and ultimately change the intrapersonal and interpersonal dynamics that are producing distress and disturbance in your life. In this process, I will serve as an experienced guide and trusted companion on your journey of self-discovery with the ultimate aim of helping you reclaim authorship of your own life and enhance your capacities for joy, love, creativity, and play.

I have experience working with children, adolescents, and adults, treating a variety of issues such as depression, anxiety, dysfunctional relationships, disordered eating, PTSD, personality disorders, panic attacks, and others.
People are often held captive by their emotions and thoughts, which prevents them from reaching their full potential. My practice is informed by blending mindfulness with other modalities to alleviate this state of distraction and fully experience the present moment. To best treat my clients, I use an integrative approach that draws from many different modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, humanistic, and existential modalities. I am also trained and experienced in EMDR.

At times you find that you struggle to remember your value and to honor your own limitations and boundaries. This results in feeling insecure, anxious, tired, stressed and unseen for all the amazing things that you add to other's lives. Maybe this is because of those experiences while growing up, or perhaps it stems from all of those awkward social and professional experiences? Or maybe, even at this age, there are needs and desires that you are still waiting to receive from others, that you've never been able to provide for yourself.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
