People, my people! One of the bravest things we can ever do is ask for help. It can be hard scrolling through here, trying to find someone who may be a good fit for you. So know this: You, my friend, are worthy - you're worthy of a life where you feel at home in your mind, heart, and body - and you're worthy of the effort and investment it takes to get there. This whole healing process starts with us making sense of our past and present, yes... and more importantly, it starts with making sense of our WORTH.

Trauma, anxiety, relationship issues, and/or depression, is preventing you from living your life. Even on good days, your negative self-talk beats you you up. Everyone can be hard on themselves. It’s exhausting trying to anticipate when these feelings will strike next. You can’t trust your own thoughts. It could be that your painful past or current stress isn’t going away on its own. And most days it takes more than that. Stuck in a vicious cycle with no end in sight, you know you can’t handle this alone anymore. Maybe since it happened, something very upsetting occurred, and it changed you. . But what choice do you have?

The burdens of life are many and unique to each one of us. When these burdens give little space for our true selves to lead, disrupting the awareness of one’s own brilliance and the beauty around them, counseling makes so much sense.

What would your life be like if you woke up tomorrow and everything was just how you wanted it to be? What would be different? Therapy can help you identify and reach those goals. Whether your focus is individual, with your partner, or with a family member - the process can be beneficial and effective. My job is to help guide you through the choices, decisions, and communication patterns that are stopping you from making those improvements or changes. Therapy does not have to be intimidating or anxiety provoking. It can instead be an interactive, thought-provoking, learning experience. I am glad to partner with you on this journey.

There is a Swahali Proverb that says, “every vessel has its own waves” and here at Ankura Wellness we can help you drop anchor and find solace amid the waves. Using a person-centered approach, I think it is important to offer support for the development of change and growth. You see, I believe therapy is a process. A process that is vulnerable to us and to our emotions. Often it can leave us feeling capsized, caught in a rip current, and unable to navigate the open water on our own. On that note, let me take a moment to introduce myself!

My counseling focus is Marriage and Relationship counseling as well as depression and anxiety. I believe our core problems tend to stem from our desire to be validated and loved by others. When we do not feel worthy, "good enough" or loved we engage in self-protective behaviors (fight or flee), pain comes to the surface and we experience hurt, anger, anxiety and other destructive emotions.

How can I find a therapist in Kentucky?
Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
