Welcome to my site and I look forward to partnering with you in the development and implementation of your unique goals in our counseling relationship. Having many years experience in private practice, institutional supervision and serving as a university professor in counselor education, my approaches are best described as eclectic, based on the needs of the client. As a relationship focused provider I am Gottman trained and welcome all those in relationships to a safe and open setting.

Welcome. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker practicing in Knoxville, TN. Over the past 12 years I have worked with teens and adults, individuals, groups and families, in wilderness-based programs, schools, and in community agencies. It is my belief that all people possess within themselves the ability to make positive changes in their lives; sometimes they just need help to discover how to do so. My goal is to work alongside you to uncover ways to improve and maintain your mental health, sense of self, and overall well-being. I believe in meeting clients “Where They Are At,” and value and respect the uniqueness of each person.

I enjoy working with a wide range of people and have a special interest in working with adults struggling with big changes in their lives or learning how to start and maintain healthy relationships. I love working with people who want to learn new ways of managing their emotions instead of relying on numbing or avoidance. Life is hard, and it's even more difficult when you don't allow yourself to feel the full range of your emotions or express them in a healthy way.

I was born and raised in Knoxville, TN. I did my training in Houston, Texas, where I lived for 24 years. I've been in practice for over 15 years. I am a strong Christian. But I only do Christian counseling when asked to do so. I am very LGBT friendly. I believe everybody deserves dignity and respect. We could all use a little help sometimes. I work best with people who are open to feedback and able to discuss concerns without judgment or reserve.

I believe that clients have the innate ability to heal through accessing their innermost selves. Each client is traveling their own personal, interpersonal, and spiritual path and I act as a guide to help facilitate and co- create healing and wholeness. Through healing old wounds, past traumas, and solving relationship conflicts, I aspire to help individuals, couples, and families reach their highest potentials to aid in having richer and more fulfilling lives. My approach is Transpersonal, which means that I look beyond the ego into the spiritual to encourage wholeness in each client.

I earned my PhD from the University of Tennessee, and am a licensed clinical psychologist. I have received specialized training in many areas, including evaluations, hypnosis, trauma recovery, depression, and anxiety, behavioral issues and family therapy. I work with children, adolescents, adults, and families, and have specific training in the treatment of law enforcement officers and emergency responders. I do a great deal of work with families and children going through divorce. My therapeutic style is generally cognitive-behavioral, but varies from case to case depending on the needs of the client. I believe that everyone deserves to be heard and respected.
