I've enjoyed 20 years of working with clients -- witnessing trauma and brokenness, as well as the amazing human capacity for restoration.
I received my MA in Counseling Psychology from Indiana Wesleyan University. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), specializing in working with men and women who are having difficulty balancing life and a variety of struggles (ranging from addictions, relationships, work, parenting, depression, anxiety, PTSD, etc.). I work with survivors of abuse, domestic violence, and complex sexual trauma; substance abuse; families impacted by porn or infidelity; and veterans or first responders who are having difficulty managing the impact of their work.

I work diligently to provide a safe place for individuals and couples seeking to address issues such as relationship dysfunction, depression, anxiety, addiction, codependency, and trauma, especially where these issues negatively impact a client's ability to maintain a sense of reverence for self or connection and intimacy with others. I discover with each client his or her strengths and ways to utilize these strengths to facilitate growth and healing. I combine a knowledge of psychotherapeutic strategies for healing with spiritual principles to weave a pathway for growth and healing for each precious soul.

I also use group therapy to help those with social anxiety or relationship concerns, depression, trauma, and more.
I enjoy helping overfunctioners live a more balanced life. Another way to think of it is if you struggle with perfectionism and overachieving to the point of stress/exhaustion or anxiety/depression, I can help you learn to love and accept yourself as you are and be okay with using self-care and asking for help when you need it! I am also passionate about working with teens preparing for or adjusting to college and helping people manage tough life transitions, overcome self-criticism, learn when and how to say ‘no’ (set boundaries) so that you can start saying ‘yes’ to yourself, and work through past traumas.

I have worked in various settings which include psychiatric hospitals with adolescents and adults, conducted community-based treatment, worked with Veterans suffering from PTSD and even served as a crisis responder for suicide prevention.
Hello. My name is Miguel and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. From an early age I have had the passion and desire to help others around me. Being the proud son of an Army Veteran, motivated my desire in helping those who have served our country. Growing up in a military family is a unique experience that comes with many opportunities and challenges. As a child I moved every 2 years of my life until the age of 16. I didn’t realize at the time that this experience would help to mold and ignite my passion.

I specialize in psychological evaluations to address mood/behavioral disorders, learning disabilties, ADHD, and parental issues. My focus in therapy is in helping the client develop a stronger sense of self-sufficiency and wholeness. It takes a lot of courage to come to therapy and be vulnerable, and I strive to honor this. Therapy works best when there is a strong therapeutic alliance and clear goals; therefore, these are the main focus of the initial therapy sessions. I have worked with a variety of clients from childhood to middle adulthood, and through relationship and consistency am able to help clients make valuable and lasting change.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
