Selecting the right therapist is an important, personal decision. You deserve to work with someone who is compassionate and highly skilled in helping to bring about desired changes in your life. In nearly thirty years of clinical experience, I have helped people attain more satisfying personal and family relationships, cope with symptoms of anxiety or depression, and learn to better manage the stress of daily life.

I work with children and teens and their families. I address issues including problematical attachment with parents and/or caregivers, negative self-image, trauma, depression, anxiety, anger, oppositionality, poor communication and social skills, acting out behaviors, sibling problems, and difficulties in school. As a therapist, I establish a safe "container" in which to work with children and parents together in order to strengthen a child's positive sense of self, reinforce the family system and bonds of attachment, and promote behavioral and emotional regulation. I work with teachers and school administrators to help children learn and thrive in school

From my point of view, therapy is the process of creating a life that feels meaningful to you while dealing with pain in authentic and useful ways. I’ll warmly support you throughout the journey. When you're ready, we’ll begin by developing a therapeutic relationship where every aspect of you feels welcomed, even the parts that feel overwhelming or embarrassing sometimes. I want you to know that you’re connecting with me, a real person, not a blank slate. This might look like shared laughter, ongoing discussions about what feels best for you, and finding small ways to alleviate societal pressures.

I work with clients who are motivated to free themselves from past traumas. You have an idea of where you want to be, but you realize that it is extremely hard to get there on your own given the lack of inner strengths, skill set or external support. It is not uncommon that we develop "learned helplessness" in repeated experiences of stress. Yet, the secret of "unstuck" is in understanding how human brain learns new things (i.e., moving beyond the past). My work with many clients has proved that a combination of trauma-informed approaches has been extremely effective in healing traumatized brains.

Feeling chronic negative emotions such as sadness, anger, anxiety, or loneliness is often a sign that something in our relationships has gone awry. By the time we attend psychotherapy, the task of altering our relationships may feel difficult or impossible to navigate alone. As a psychodynamic therapist, I am interested in how your early relationships impact your personality, worldview, attachment, perceptions, and coping mechanisms. Through compassion, challenge and sometimes humor, I aim to help my patients gain insight, learn new ways of relating to others, and implement change in order to heal, grow, and flourish.

I believe “art is a wound turned to light” (a quote by Georges Braque). I believe the healing process is based on trust, compassion, and a willingness to embrace growth towards change. The human experience is often responding to life experiences and resolutions are possible. Sometimes when we are processing our experiences and want to heal we need the power of art and the creative process to guide and support, express, gain insights and realizations, offer renewed perspectives, as well as honor our present needs.

We take pride in helping individuals, couples, and families make life-enhancing changes and transitions. Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
