I enjoy working with individuals and families around various struggles in our everyday lives, whether you are struggling with a serious mental illness, healing from grief or trauma or just looking to focus on your mentaI wellness. I am trained in EMDR, but use a number of different approaches to meet the needs of my clients including DBT, CBT, and Solution Focused. I offer non-judgmental counseling and education regardless of religious or cultural beliefs that may be different of my own. It is my view that the client/family are the experts on themselves rather than myself and I work with them together as a team.

I am a versatile, dedicated clinician who is open to working with individuals ages 14+. If you are feeling stuck, depressed, anxious or directionless, allow me to walk alongside you as we come up with a solution together. I will meet you wherever you are without judgment. Sometimes, we are in need of support, or a nudge in the right direction. Sometimes, it is hard to know what we may need. It would be my honor to help you, whatever your case may be.

On the outside, you look like you’ve got it all figured out and everyone wonders how you manage to do it all. On the inside, you feel like a jumbled mess and have no idea how you’re going to keep it all going for much longer. You’re so used to taking care of everyone else and putting yourself last, if you’re even on your own list at all. I bet you’re having trouble sleeping and difficulty remembering what you even ate yesterday (did you even eat yesterday?).

If you’ve been struggling to cope with the upheavals of life, perhaps my approach to therapy would be helpful for you. If you want to experiment with healthier ways of thinking, feeling and being, I can help. According to Brene Brown, we cannot be more connected to others than we are to ourselves, and I have personally come from a place where I was completely dissociated from my own emotions, even after marriage and kids. With the information I learned on my journey to wholeness, I am able to help my clients explore ways to heal their heartache, and connect with themselves and others to find happiness and fulfillment.

Are you struggling to remain psychologically flexible in an ever-changing world? Psychological flexibility means contacting the present moment fully as a conscious human being and based on what the situation affords, changing or persisting in behavior in the service of chosen values.

Whether you are completely scared of the idea of counseling, or have been in therapy many times before, I want you to know that that the therapy process can, and does help. We all want and need a safe place to talk and process what is going on in our heads and all around us. You are here because you want help, and believe that there is hope. Together we can build upon that hope, and can take some concrete steps to make real change happen.

Kids and teenagers encounter new challenges every day. School, sports, activities, and family dynamics can lead to anxiety, stress, and even depression. They may feel overwhelmed and struggle to talk about what is going on. They may be scared, feel embarrassed, or feel unsure of who to talk about what they are feeling. You may have noticed changes in their behavior or mood as a result. I work with kids, teenagers, and families to identify and gain understanding of what has led to their struggles and collaboratively work on how to move forward. I bring a different energy to therapy.

The life you are living might not feel like the life you want. Do you feel controlled by your emotions instead of being in control of them? Do you feel like a prisoner of your circumstances? Are you overwhelmed and frustrated but can't find a way out? As soon as you deal with one thing, something else would happen and just bring you down. All this would leave you feeling emotionally, mentally, and spiritually depleted. Sounds familiar?

Positive Psychology Therapists

How does positive psychology therapy work?

Positive psychology therapy derives from the work of Martin Seligman of the University of Pennsylvania. He and others developed the field of positive psychology building on humanistic theory. Positive psychology therapy is similar to acceptance and commitment therapy, and it essentially quiets emotional distress through positivity, contentment, and well-being. This therapy does not reduce the individual to symptoms and conditions.

When do I know if I need treatment using positive psychology?

If an individual is overwhelmed by emotional distress and general negativity, they may feel trapped. A positive psychology therapist can help them view their emotions and behaviors differently, and approach life with a better understanding of their positive strengths. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from positive psychology therapy?

The patient may be asked to explore their signature strengths. The therapist will also ask the individual to talk about their goals, which should be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timely. Discussing negative experiences and symptoms is important, but so is the exploration of positive experiences. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more positive and fulfilling way. This therapy is proactive and may use forgiveness, gratitude, hope, and compassion to help reframe negativity.

Is positive psychology effective in therapy?

Positive psychology therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with eating disorders benefit from this type of intervention. This therapy encourages the person to reframe their distressed thoughts and move into healthier patterns of functioning. This therapy also aims to move an individual toward what works well in their life. Positive psychology therapy can elicit lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
