Sometimes life throws us off the path we wanted to walk down, but it is never to late to change the direction of our path. It is important to take time to explore our thoughts as they are directly correlated to how we feel on a daily basis. I share with my clients that we need to start by managing your emotions, so they do not manage you. When we learn to have all three; positive thoughts, feelings, and beliefs, we begin to see the change that we have been looking for. During our time together my goal is to help you process your thoughts, emotions, and beliefs in order for you to walk down the path of your choice.

Too often in life, it seems as though the struggles we face are going to overwhelm us. Too often we feel as though the very people who should be our support system are either failing us, or are part of the problem. My aim during therapy is to create a safe and secure environment in order to help clients reach their goals and learn healthier ways of interacting with people and world. Life isn't always fair, and it isn't always easy; but it can be better. Therapy can be an important factor in reaching that potential.

Life continually presents us with challenges and we may feel that we don't have the tools to manage and overcome them. We all sometimes need help to find ways to cope, accept and overcome all that comes our way. Dealing with anxiety, depression, self-sabotaging behaviors and transitions can be difficult and talking to someone can be an effective strategy to manage these challenges. I specialize in helping parents manage the challenges they face with their children and school districts. As a school psychologist for 27 years, I have helped countless parents effectively deal with their children and assist with school issues.

You wish your spouse knew how to love you the way you want to be loved. Over the last year, the stress on your marriage has led you to a breaking point. Everyone in your house has been working and learning from home, crammed in on top of each other. All the normal outlets for fun have vanished. Meanwhile, communication between you and your spouse has hit an all-time low. Every morning, you politely tiptoe around each other in the kitchen, performing a ballet of indifference as you navigate the tense silence that’s taken root between you. The hurt and resentment keep piling up. The stage is set for another explosion.

My goal as a counselor is to provide a safe and welcoming atmosphere for clients to feel secure and supported on their journey towards self-fulfillment.

Every client is different, I work hard to establish individualized plans of care. My approach is client-centered, as I am of the belief that all people have the capacity to help themselves. When working with a couple, my approach is to assist in helping to identify patterns of communication and behavior that couples are typically not conscious of and are generally unproductive in a relationship. This begins with my view that regardless of what is going on, both individuals are contributing towards how things currently are. If both individuals are motivated towards improving the relationship, success is guaranteed.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the United States, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
