As a Mental Health Counselor with extensive experience in couples/marital therapy, I am skilled at addressing communication difficulties, loss of connection, infidelity & abuse. In individual therapy I specialize in treating relationship concerns, interpersonal struggles, family conflict, trauma, anxiety/depression, & self-esteem issues. My therapeutic style is flexible and intuitive, but I firmly believe that the strongest indicator of successful psychotherapy is the connection between counselor and patient, so my goal is to develop true, meaningful rapport with all of my clients (with a healthy dose of humor mixed in!).

I worked on a mobile crisis team for 9 years where I conducted assessments for risk of violence to self and others.
As a psychotherapist, I see the strengths in others and always maintain hope and commitment to growth and development. With our relationship as the foundation, therapy can become a fascinating process of getting to know and develop one's true self, resulting in a greater sense of authenticity, vitality, connection and well-being. It's essential to find a therapist who is a good fit for you; my style is warm and involved, respectful and attentive. We will look for old patterns that are no longer working, and explore new possibilities within the safe confines of the therapy room.

I became certified in Alcohol and Substance Abuse assessment and treatment in a post-grad 1000 hour program.
Born in NYC and graduating Columbia University with an MS in Social Work I became a Cognitive Behavioral Therapist working with a broad range of individuals, couples and families from a variety of cultures. As a seasoned therapist I’ve treated a wide range of issues in a clinical setting. Communication between parent and child and in couples is key and techniques to help diminish negative behaviors like blame and reactivity are used. Defining some of the underlying causes for behavior, creating an alliance and defining goals will put you on the fast track to feeling reassured and functioning better with one another.

I am a New York licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a Hypnotherapist. I am also an Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant. I have over 25 years of experience counseling people. I have experience with, but not limited to, depression, anxiety, autism, maternal mental health, substance abuse, divorce proceedings, couples abuse, and people in the LGBTQ+ community. With all the counseling I have done I became aware of the limitations of “talk therapy” when I worked with veterans. Hypnotherapy is another way of helping people with trauma. anxiety, depression, smoking, and eating disorders.

I am passionate about helping individuals overcome negative beliefs they may have about themselves, others, or the world, specifically after a trauma or an adverse life experience. My clinical training in CBT, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI), allows me to have a unique perspective to help individuals identify what is keeping them stuck and find ways to create a new narrative to their lives. In addition to trauma, I work with individuals with anxiety, depression, mood disorders, low self-esteem, addictions, ADHD, and relationship concerns.

"I believe that compassion for oneself is the key to feeling better. When we can stop idealizing and stop trying to be what we're not, we can learn to have compassion and acceptance of who we really are. Accepting our human condition with its limitations, leads to self-knowledge, which leads to growth and ultimately to comfort within ourselves.

As a solution-focused therapist, my goal is to help you uncover your true potential. While we can't change difficult situations of the past, we can work together to better understand and resolve challenges in your life. By applying complementary therapy approaches and techniques, we will unearth long-standing behavior patterns or negative perceptions that may be holding you back from experiencing a more fulfilling and meaningful life.

Domestic Abuse Therapists

What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?

Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?

Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?

Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?

It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
