My specialties include addiction, depression, anxiety and the multitude of obstacles that get in the way of our day to day.
I specialize in cultural and gender specific issues, particularly with women of color and the special obstacles they face due to the fact that many are not taught to date. This is a very important skill that leads to relationship stability and happiness. On the other hand men face obstacles regarding their challenges of staying faithful and oftentimes blame "biology" and their mates for this instead of getting to the core of the problem and the anxiety they feel when contemplating commitment and monogamy.

I effectively counsel people from a full range of social classes to address addiction, treatment, recovery, and rehabilitation.
I will meet you exactly where you are at in life. Together, you and I will explore what you do, how you feel, and the triggers behind it all. I can do the same for your child or your parent too. Children, adults, and seniors – at any stage or crossroad – are welcomed on this journey. As a passionate life coach and credentialed mental health provider, I aim to identify and help manage the root causes of decisions and habits. We can accomplish this in group therapy or one-on-one sessions, in-person or virtually.

The problems which humans face can be daunting. Often so complex, whether it is physical, spiritual, emotional or psychological; can impact our ability to function at our fullest potential. It is often difficult for us to initiate a healthy beginning, but it is important for us to begin in a direction which is most beneficial to our overall wellbeing. It is essential that we understand how our upbringing, beliefs, and societal factors influence our behavior. Believing that everyone is deserving of therapeutic guidance; I am currently offering sessions below the current market value.

You have made the first step! Mental Health is the only part of our wellness we tend to neglect. Take a minute to think about it. If one of your loved one's were to say or complain about chest pain, I’m sure you would not hesitate to seek help. We want to see our loved one's live a long and healthy life and if we could assist in that process, we are going to do everything in our power to do so. Wouldn't you agree? Then what about our mental health? This is what we tend to ignore.

Are you a professional managing a career, dealing with family obligations or perhaps addressing life transitions that are causing you to feel insecure and unmanageable? I get it. There are days you feel like you’ve lost control, can't make decisions or you question your choices especially if you’re feeling overwhelmed. You may even want to give up! And that’s OK. We don’t always have the answers or the energy to do it all. The expectations that others put on us or the ones we put on ourselves, rarely gives us permission to make mistakes. When do you give yourself permission to care of YOU?

Hello, I'm Leslie, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of New York with over 15 years of experience in behavioral health and a broad range of professional expertise. Throughout the years as a mental health practitioner, I’ve found counseling from a spiritual perspective to be most effective. Although psychoanalytic and many other theoretical approaches are essential in helping clients understand their current state, I believe it is important to focus mainly on the here and now to address the immediate issue. My areas of focus include anxiety, coping skills, depression, family conflict, amongst others.

Addiction Therapists

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
