I have experience working with illness, grief/ loss, anxiety, depression, relationship issues and life transitions.
Life is filled with many unique challenges. Going to therapy is an investment in your well being. I see therapy as an opportunity to better understand your lived experiences. Often when struggling, we try to avoid or push uncomfortable feelings away. Unfortunately, these feelings do not simply disappear. Instead, they make themselves known in all kinds of ways ranging from psychological to physical. I see therapy as a place where you know that you are supported, treated with empathy and compassion while telling your story and healing conflicts from the past.

Finding a therapist can be a challenging process, and finding one you connect with can be especially tricky. You may find yourself here because you are experiencing anxiety, social anxiety, or are going through a difficult career or life transition. I am here to listen if you are feeling stuck, alone, or believe that you are not where you’re “supposed to be” in life. My goal is to create and hold a safe, non-judgmental space that allows you to be your most authentic self, and where you can express your difficult and uncomfortable emotions.

Therapy can be a safe and non-judgmental space for cultivating reflection and implementing positive changes. Whether you are looking to find relief from specific distressing emotional experiences, to work on your relationship with yourself and others in your life, develop better coping skills, or address barriers that block you from living your life fully, I consider it an honor to help you address the struggles and emotional pain that bring you to therapy. Together, we can help you build a life that brings greater fulfillment, meaning and joy, even in the face of life’s inevitable setbacks, losses, and disappointments.

I have learned the "connection" we make in therapy will lead to fruitful change. We begin by working on very specific concerns, to the more elusive, abstract conflicts of a more esoteric life that aren't so simple to characterize. Everyone comes to therapy with different hopes, unique needs, and a desire to seek what is transformational. I work to create a trusting relationship with all of my patients. In the initial sessions, I focus on what brings you to therapy at this moment in time and to establish a working rapport where you feel safe and listened to, without judgement. Therapy is a unique opportunity to find your voice,

I believe there is great value in a curious and non-judgmental exploration of our feelings, thoughts, actions, and relational patterns, in the presence of another person. An interactive and collaborative psychotherapy process can increase empathy for oneself and others, and strengthen ones capacity for making meaningful change, and coping with challenges that arise throughout life.

Are you considering a major life change or looking for something different for yourself? Perhaps this brings about increased levels of stress and anxiety. I work with many people trying to do the same and have found that process of realizing goals and figuring out the next steps can lie in the smaller moments of your past. Whether you need to practice a bit more or adapt to a new task, therapy with me is a safe space to do just that.

Hello, I'm Zaina! As a therapist, I aim to create a space to foster introspection, inner child healing, and self-compassion through the collaborative effort of both the therapist and client. My style of treatment focuses on helping clients find patterns in their emotions, thoughts, and beliefs in order to gain insight into their current self. Our work together aims for you to explore how reactions to present-day circumstances may be influenced by past events. I may also implement trauma focused or behavioral approaches that focus on processing, healing, and developing coping skills.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
