In working with patients, I have learned the "connection" we make will lead to fruitful change. In therapy, I will provide you a most unusual opportunity to find your voice. We begin by working on very specific concerns, to the more elusive, abstract conflicts of a more esoteric life that aren't so simple to characterize. Most everyone comes to therapy with different hopes, unique needs, and a desire to seek what is transformational. I define therapy as the time spent between the therapist and the patient, bringing about insight and discovery, and how this can result in change in your everyday life. I work to create a trusting relationship with all of my patients. In the initial sessions, I ask numerous questions, focusing on what brings you to therapy at this moment in time, and to establish a working rapport where you feel safe and listened to, without judgement, during our time together.
I have experience with anxiety disorders, depression resulting from life stressors including losses, relationships, everyday living. I have vast experience with caregiver stress, including adult children now caring for aging parents. I have conducted workshops on cluttering when I was the crisis intervention program director for a large New York City social service agency, addressing both individual and family traumatic crisis. I work with both individuals and couples, guided by both psychoanalytic theory and an appreciation for deeply rooted lifelong attachment patterns.
I rely on my experience with adults and older adults, and my psychoanalytic institute training to engage each patient. As a clinician, I believe the therapeutic process is existential in nature, experience is viewed from any patient's life perspective, and this perspective guides the treatment.
