Other areas of expertise include: anxiety/depression trauma and relationship and family issues.
Therapy begins where you are. People seek therapy for many different reasons. Whether you are dealing with a particular crisis or simply want to know more about yourself, therapy can lead to a better understanding of who we are and what has shaped us. Through these discoveries, therapy can allow you to identify old patterns that have been standing in your way of living the life you want.

I am also trained in internal family systems and other strength-based approaches to therapy.
My approach is active, supportive and collaborative. I enjoy working with people dealing with life transitions, relationship issues, career/academic, parenting, grief, chronic illness, disabilities, divorce, remarriage, and GLBT populations. I also like working with people who are creative and/or who have a sense of humor. I usually have only day time appointments and I do not usually see clients on weekends.

I specialize in the treatment of anxiety and depression, using multiple approaches (see below). Many of my clients are graduate students, and young professionals. But I also work with older adults, who are juggling work, relationships, and family commitments. Life in Boston can be exciting, but also demanding and stressful. I work with clients on reducing the stress and creating more of a work/life balance. I believe in the power of the therapeutic relationship and in the healing process, but I also believe in the importance of using various tools and techniques to help clients achieve their goals.

I draw from psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, family systems, and mindfulness based therapies.
I am now providing therapy via telehealth only. As a licensed clinical psychologist with over 25 years experience working with individuals/couples, I often see patients who struggle with unsatisfying family and personal relationships, health problems (e.g. infertility, cancer, chronic pain), grief and loss, and trouble with work and career. Change involves both insight and actual changes in one's behavior. My goal is to create a place where we can work safely to explore the origins of problems and rapidly create positive change in one's life. My approach is warm, supportive, and actively focused on bringing about lasting change.

I have experience helping people of diverse backgrounds and identities in various stages of life, including adolescents, young adults, middle adults, and older adults, as they explore issues that arise through transitions, losses, daily stresses, and changing relationships as well as experiences of grief, trauma, family issues, identity exploration, divorce, infertility, depression, and anxiety. Different phases of life can bring new challenges or raise old concerns that we thought were behind us. I assist people in exploring their current worries in response to specific goals as well as the desire for deeper understanding.

Among these approaches are Art Therapy, Psychodrama, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Meditation, Mindfulness, and Somatic Therapy.
Relationship issues, transitions, losses, and other life challenges can be overwhelming to face alone. During such times, it could be reassuring to meet a person who can support you and help you see hope. The goal is to gradually move away from old patterns and towards a happier, harmonious, and more fulfilling life.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
