She began her health career treating patients in various settings including spinal cord injury, intensive care, hematology, oncology, and medical-surgical units. In a series of happy coincidences, my life took an unexpected turn in the Vanderbilt School of Nursing Master’s program where I was able to secure a spot in the psychiatric/mental health specialty. Much of my practice has been in community mental health which has been fulfilling, enlightening and educational. I’m comfortable with diagnosing and providing medication for depression, anxiety, bipolar, ADHD and sleep issues and providing education about the medication.

His profession as a psychiatric nurse has taught him to see people as they are, and to avoid labeling individuals based on their mental illness.
